It's October....

...and I'm breathing a little easier.  Jim is recovering from September's hospital stay.  It's cooled off and warmed up but it's been pretty nice overall.

And of course, I am watching baseball in October.  Seriously odd that I should be watching baseball at all what with my being a non-sports oriented person.  But, apparently the Detroit Tigers are in the American League Championship Series.  Yep, they beat the Yankees.  I'm so proud of them.  lol   Even if they don't win against the Texas Rangers I think they did a superb thing.  Of course it would be sweet if they beat the Rangers but losing to them wouldn't be like losing to the Yankees.  I just can't stand the Yankees.  One day I'll go into detail about why - considering I'm not really a sports fan and only since I moved to Michigan have I even bothered to watch any baseball.  They're down one game and need to win the next one to stay alive in the series and need to win two games to win the American League Championship Series.  I would LOVE to see them go to the World Series.

Other things I'm watching this fall are returning favorites like Blue Bloods, Hawaii Five-O, Modern Family and The Middle.  Watched the first three Harry's Law but the show seems to be turning away from the quirky - law office in a shoe store to typical lawyer show ala David E. Kelly.  Nothing wrong with that but it can become a 'been there, done that' kind of thing and I'll be bored.  Although the first story was rather compelling.  Alfred Molina guest starred.  Also liked Jean Smart who has been showing up as a bad guy a lot lately.  She was killed at the end of last season's Hawaii Five-O.  Not sure how much longer I'll watch this season.

The only new show I'm quite taken by is A Person of Interest with Jim Caviezel and Michael Emerson of Lost.  Interesting show with lots of secrets we still need to learn.  The past of both of the principal characters - mainly Michael Emerson's character, etc.  It seems to be doing well in the ratings, something I'm not used to lately with shows I like a lot. Hopefully the trend continues.

I am also watching Dexter. Just finished season 4 and have the first four episodes of season 5 waiting to be watched between baseball games.

Oh and on cable where most of my 'Geek TV' shows are, I've been watching some geek and non-geek shows.  My favorites are all shows about the universe and scientific developments plus the non-geek stuff like Project Runway, Oddities (although I think this is borderline geek), Rocket City Rednecks (this could be geeky, too in a way), Myth Busters, Pawn Stars, American Pickers, American Restoration and am waiting for Flying Wild Alaska to come back with more new episodes.   It seems to take all these shows to make up for the lack of LOCI.  Heard Vincent D'Onofrio and Ethan Hawke will be starring in a new television cop drama called Blue Tilt.  Can't wait for that!

Yes, I watch a LOT of television.  I think I'm making up for all the years I had no time to watch.  I was the girl who was in Dallas the summer after the whole 'Who shot J.R.' thing with that night-time soap opera Dallas.  My questions as we walked through the airport in Dallas were "Who's J.R.?" and "Why is the guy from 'I Dream of Jeannie' on all these t-shirts, glasses, mugs and other things?"   My fellow travelers informed me I needed to get out from the rock I was living under.  I thought the whole thing was stupid.   lol   Ah yes, the days of college where I had no time to do much television watching.

So I need to try and get some sleep now.  Seems I'm having a bout of insomnia for some reason.  My brain just won't shut down tonight.  More than likely I'll be out like a light tomorrow night.  I'm not one to not sleep for very long.   At least that's what I'm hoping.  As one ages, one's body has a mind of its own sometimes.  And it often disagrees with what I would like it to do. If so, I'll probably put up the photos of my kitties I've been taking and saving and not sharing for some reason.  Probably my lack of online life any more.  lol

The Red Sox really choked to the Skankees so THANK YOU DETROIT!

As for TV, i've been watching NCIS, and we are trying out the new Terra Nova. I watched the first 2 Whitney shows and they were OK. My honey likes Pawn Stars, and the storage auction shows, and American Pickers too. When he's not home I just stick to reruns of Friends, King of Queens, NCIS, LOSVU and documentaries.

Like you, I went through a long period of time in late high school through college where I didn't watch much TV at all.

I was THRILLED when the Tigers beat the Yankees; like you - I hate the Yankees. Unlike you, however, I have been a baseball fan my whole life. Grew up with it...it's in my blood. When the last pitch is thrown in this year's World Series, I'll be chomping at the bit until February when pitchers and catchers report to spring training. It will be a long winter.

I watch way too much television, too. Since I live in Cincinnati, I do watch Harry's Law. It was nice to see updated shots of the city in the episodes thus far this season. I understand they were pretty much relying on stock footage last year. Also, I like this season better. By the end of the first season, I was beginning to think I lived in a different city. I mean, don't get me wrong, Cincinnati has its problems...LOTS of them, but it's not nearly as "ghetto" as Kelly made it out to be. Oh, well...I love Kathy Bates, so that is the main reason I watch. I also watch The Middle and Modern Family, and I absolutely love The Big Bang Theory. I didn't at first, but it grew on me.

Hope the insomnia goes away. I know what it's like when you want to go to sleep and the mind just won't shut off. Didn't know about Jim, so hope he's well. Would love to see the photos of the kitties. Take Care.

Missed Terra Nova's premiere, JoJo but I've heard mixed reviews. Also missed American Horror Story so probably if they continue, I'll have to catch up later via Netflix or something. :-/

I love Kathy Bates, too. She's the only reason we kept watching until it started to make us feel the charm of her office in a shoe store. Reminded us of Ed where he moved back home to his small town and opened his law office in a bowling alley. lol

I know how you feel about the way they depict the city you live in, BobbyG. Sometimes I roll my eyes at things in Hawaii Five-O but mostly they get things right and despite making up stupid names like 'Kukui High School' I think they've got a good feel for Hawaii.

I think once baseball is over, I'll probably be able to catch up on all other television watching. I got to watch Ted Danson on CSI a couple of times. I grew tired of that show long ago but I like Ted Danson so we gave it at try.

Insomnia went away. Will post some photos tomorrow. We had the kids over for Jim's birthday. Yesterday was his birthday but we did the cake and ice cream thing today.

Back to the ALCS!!!
