So it's the end. Vincent D'Onofrio, Kathryn Erbe and Eric Bogosian will all be exiting LOCI at some point in season 9. Found it in my Google Alerts - thanks to the heads up from BobbyG and maherjunkie. I suppose that means the season opener with all of them and then one by one they go? Goldblum is returning. Nicholson is not. So some new nubile young thing will join Jeff. Sad, isn't it? That LOCI should come to such an end?
USA can kiss Vincent's fans goodbye because none of us will continue watching the mess the show has become. Although Goldblum has done a pretty good job with what they gave him. I hope his fans are as loyal as Vincent's are.
I have mixed feelings about this news. On one hand, I'm going to miss seeing Vincent on a regular basis since he has a preference for indie films and while I love indie films as well, they aren't easy to come by and I'll have to wait to find them on the Independent Film Channel. :-/
On the other hand, I feel like a huge weight has been lifted off me as I no longer have to stress over what the awful writers will do to them next season. I am hoping the Goldblum crew are staying and the Walon Green crew will be leaving. Goldblum's writers were so much better.
So I suppose I can just watch and hope the exit is handled well. Once Goren, Eames and Ross have all exited, I'll be done. I am also a huge fan of Kathryn Erbe and Eric Bogosian so if they're on for an episode or two beyond Goren's departure, I'll watch. I like Jeff Goldblum and all but not enough to watch on a regular basis. It's no longer must see TV for me.
I'm sure most have heard the news but just in case, here is the full story. Read and weep or rejoice depending on your POV. I'd post photos but Blogger isn't cooperating so I'll just have to wait to do it later.
Having a weekend off from grandparent duties so will probably complain or rejoice more about this depending on how I end up feeling by the time I post.
I will probably post more on this later but wanted to mention that after a couple of years of not watching House because it was so formulaic and House was becoming more of a curmudgeon than even I liked, it came back with a powerful 2 hour season opener with Andre Braugher as guest star. Andre Braugher and Hugh Laurie gave performances worthy of an Emmy.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. You've voiced what I was thinking... it just hurts me to loose them.
I have to say my reaction to the CI news is similar to yours. I'm sad to see the end of Goren and Eames, but relieved that I won't have to watch them be underused and poorly written like they were last season. And well, there's always fanfic to let them live on.
I wish luck to Goldblum, but I doubt I'll watch. I rather feel CI has sold out -- one thing I always loved is that Goren and Eames really looked like "normal" people and now they have JB and this Saffron Burrows lady who looks like a Kate Moss clone with colegen injections. Nope...not for me.
I guess its public confirmation of what was being said along time ago on the Major Case site. Peachy closed it at the right time...but then she always had her finger on the pulse and knew a thing or two...or three even! Thats why we were all on that site.
Colegen injections? They will need an injection of some sort....maybe the best injection would be the one that puts LOCI to sleep...quickly!
Funny that, Andre Braugher and Vincent D'Onofrio did performances worthy of an Emmy once, but as usual Vincent went unrecognised.
I have no interest in watching Goldblum. I love Vincent. (Bet that comes as a surprise to you!)
People are so easily duped when they think someone has inside information that isnt part of an agenda. This money argument was used when both Balcer and Noth left. Hearsay becomes a rumour and people believe it as a truth. Actually this argument about money has not cropped up in any statement by those actually involved. Its just shadowy suggestion.
If VDO had really wanted to carry on endlessly then he would still be there, as he was still there after season 4 when he was quite ill and exhausted.
As a craftman he would have realised that Gorens story finished with Frame, beautifully. He is a master craftman. But his career has shown that he is also a kind man sensitive to friendship. He was helping Wolf to establish Nichols during season 8. It was a "transition" as he says.
At the time people were told to support Gorens continuance by watching the Nichols episodes, as they are now being persuaded to watch Nichols in case goren reappears. I think that is an insult to fans, using them to keep up ratings. Now THAT is an argument about money! Dont be fooled folks!
While I agree that VDO would not have been forced out on a money issue if he really had a deep desire to continue, I also think money is big issue when it comes to the TV business. VDO himself in a French interview said that there is no art in television -- it's a business. So while I would never take what someone says they heard from someone else as gospel, I also can see where there might be an ounce of truth to it. TV is a buisness -- a booming one and there is lots of money to be made for a lot of different parties that have nothing to do with the creative process. It is very much about the bottom line, which is why so many shows (IMO) who do push creative boundraries rarely last very long or are inevitably changed to better make them money. And I do kind of feel that this is what is happening to CI as it is being transtioned from a thoughtful, complex series to something typical and predictiable, but with highly attractive leads.
For USA the bottom line is money. See my next post.
Also, I agree that if Vincent really wanted to continue he would have continued. Quite frankly, I think he realizes the show is no longer what it once was so perhaps the money issue is a good excuse for him to step away.
