Every time I think I've got a nice topic to rant on, things get more bizarre. I'm just so fed up with the news these days I loathe turning on the news.
Someone - I think on Hardball with Chris Matthews - said no one in Hollywood could come up with the scenario we've got in the senate this year. The war in the middle east is getting worse with both sides behaving badly. Why the world is angry only at Israel is beyond me. Oh right, the big guys are supposed to let the little guys kill them in small numbers because the big guys could kill a lot of the little guys but that would be wrong. What fucked up logic is that? I'm not saying it's not overkill on Israel's part but honestly, do you think Hamas is completely innocent? Who broke the cease fire first?
Let's see, oh yes, that asshole Governor Blagojevich has done the impossible. He's passed Tom Delay on my list of most disgusting shows of arrogance and assholeness in the face of all facts. Never mind the good of the country. It's all about them. Yet another politician on my long list of politicians who need to be punched in the face.
I'm pissed off about the Muslim family - they're Americans, btw - who got escorted off a plane and denied the right to fly because some redneck morons heard them discussing where the most dangerous place on the plane was - in case something went wrong, not because they were planning to bomb it - and reported them to some bimbo stewardess (yeah, I know they're called something else but I can't remember and don't give a damn because whatever she was, she was a bimbo), who in turn reported it to others who finally thought the family was dangerous. Federal Marshals escorted them off the plane and after discussing things with them realized that the airline employees and the passengers on the plane were retarded but fear and ignorance kept them off the plane.
I can't gell you how pissed that makes me. Why? Because members of my family were treated the same way during WWII. It's just so easy to discriminate against people just because they look different and aren't of the same religious beliefs shared by most of the country they happen to live in.
What it has taught me is that while we have overcome one prejudice - we elected a black man named Barack Obama to be our president - we still have a long way to go. I'm sure if Mr. Obama was a Muslim and not a Christian, that would not have happened.
So it's okay to be black now it's just not okay to be Muslim.
Oh and that reminds me, it's not cool to be gay in this country either. Why? Because the people of California, a very liberal state, have proven that religion is once again holding us back and preventing us from recognizing outdated taboos. We deny a group of people their civil rights and fall back on archaic beliefs that should be thrown out. Kind of like the teachings of the Catholic church when Galileo had the nerve to tell them that they were wrong and the Earth is NOT the center of the universe.
Let's stick out heads up our ass and pretend we still live in the dark ages. You know, when all progress we made went right out the window thanks to superstition and religion gone amok.
Bigotry is alive and well in America. Just because we have overcome one major roadblock doesn't mean we're enlightened all of a sudden. I'm just in a pissy mood over it all. It's sort of spoiling my happiness over the election of Barack Obama.
But, in the long run, I believe these things will work themselves out as well. It's just frustrating to have to deal with some days.

When it comes to bigorty in America if it's not one thing it's another. The scarred white people always find something to fear and something/one to feel they are supieror to, despite they fact that the only people that really have a right to bitch in this country are the Native Americans.
They like to forget that we all come from immigrants...very few of us can claim to be native to this country (and a side note: it pisses me off when someone who is barely a quater native america applies for native american scholarships taking them away from people who really need them). Arg.
Sorry I didn't mean to go on such a tanget.
It's just so frustrating that for a hundred plus years the mentality hasn't changed...not really at least.
Sadly, the lunatics are in charge of the asylum in the UK. If I had the nerve, I'd up sticks and leave, but where the hell to go to, I've no idea. There are problems everywhere...except maybe up a mountain in Switzerland - but I'm not sure I'd be able to get LOCI, so that's not an option ;0)
Rant away, Lynne. It's nice to know I'm not alone in my frustration.
And there's no way I'd go where there was no way of getting LOCI! :-D
I agree completely! I'm also with you on your oft stated view that God and religion sometimes seem to have nothing to do with each other.
