Happy 2009!

Thanks to all who have stopped by here throughout the year! It's been fun getting to know you all and either sharing political views or obsessing over Vincent D'Onofrio.

Here's hoping we have a great 2009!

New Year Resolutions

I'm horrible when it comes to New Year's Resolutions. In fact, since I rarely manage to stick to them, I stopped making them years ago. I was 30 when I made a resolution to not make any more resolutions and it was the only one I stuck to until now and now I'm breaking that one, too! Ah the irony. LOL

However, I have a good reason. I found a way to make New Year's Resolutions that are attainable. It's not my original idea. I found it here. It's a blog entitled Bitterly Indifferent that I've been following since he wrote about his meeting with Eric Bogosian. The link was posted at Major Case and I couldn't stop laughing. Some of you may have already read it but it's worth revisiting. He also has a blog called Bitterly Books which is also quite humorous.

Here are my resolutions edited and made more reasonable, courtesy of PMJG, the author of the aforementioned blogs.

Your goals are fine, they just need a little reframing.

Save money? Resolve not to buy more than two luxury yachts in the coming year.

Lose weight? Resolve not to gain more than 20 lbs in the next three months.

Not swearing is a challenge, but try to limit it to specific parts of the day. Parts of the day when you'll be asleep. No swearing between the hours of four a.m. and six a.m., and talking in your sleep doesn't count.

Voila, personal development for the person who's too busy for development. Once you get the hang of it, you can call yourself a "personal coach," and charge people $50/hr.

So if you wish to make attainable resolutions, follow his advice and you'll be fine. ;-) And read his blogs, they're fun!

It's amazing...

...how much more time I spend online when I'm working! LOL I thought I'd be on the computer all day but it seems I do have a life outside of the computer when I'm not working. Jimmy came over to help hook up our sound system and get everything in sync with the new television set, etc. It's nice to be able to hang out with him by himself. Not that we don't adore seeing the girls but when we miss just talking to him like we used to when he was in school and living with us at the lake house.

He's still puttering around and dinner is almost ready but I wanted to pop in and let people know I'm here! I'm working on those stories for those who sent me things to beta. Will get them back to you by the end of the week. :-)

Will be posting tomorrow about resolutions and how pissed I am over USA airing ELF all day instead of having the LOCI marathon tomorrow. USA has done the impossible. They went from being my favorite station to worse than NBC in the matter of a few months. NBC took years to alienate me. They started when they shafted Letterman for Leno and ended when they started to treat LOCI like USA is starting to treat LOCI.

Ah well, off to check on dinner and see if Jimmy needs any help. I was a sound engineer at one point in my life. It's just I'm old and my back keeps me from doing certain things. Contorting my body to hook up sound and audio is one of them. I discovered this last night, which is why Jimmy is here today. It's nice to have adult children. ;-)

[Nothing playing now. Just listening to Jimmy and Jim chatting.]

Curious Week #149

The Cat took a week off last week for Christmas and all but here's this week's installment.

Week Number 149

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
Can you believe that 2008 is almost over? In my case, good riddance...here's hoping for a wonderful 2009!

Now for the questions:

1) Who do you wish could find their inner spirit to become more comfortable in their life?

My daughter-in-law. Even though she and my stepson are about to be divorced, I still absolutely adore her and wish she could feel more settled in her life. Sometimes her family makes it difficult to do that, though.

2) You have to fight a duel tomorrow at dawn. You have been allowed to choose the weapons. What do you choose?

Some sort of fire arm as hand to hand combat wouldn't suit me. I think at 5'0" I would definitely be better off with a gun unless I was fighting a midget. And no, I'm just barely NOT a midget or dwarf. ;-)

3) What’s the best thing to inherit other than money?

For me it would be sentimental stuff. Old family photos, diaries, wedding kimonos, etc. I'd say real estate and in the long run it may be real estate once again but not right now. I have a friend who inherited property and it's been a bitch to keep up and the market sucks around here now so she can't sell.

4) Do you hope to run your own company some day?

No. I'm really not the type to want to be responsible for other people and owning a company implies that. If I were to be self-employed I'd rather do something that requires just me to do any work. Like be an author or photographer or artist, etc. The stress of owning a company would be something I don't think would make it worth it. I don't even like being management. Been there, done that and am much happier being in charge of just myself.

5) Show and Tell. What comes to mind first when you see this picture? Or, tell a story if it reminds you of one.

Looks like something from one of those 'Haute Cuisine' restaurants that costs a lot more than I'm willing to pay for food. LOL When I have a meal, I want to feel like I ate something, not had a taste test. ;-)

Yes, I'm still alive

I survived Christmas and am now looking forward to a quiet week off. No big plans for New Year's as my husband and I prefer staying home and having a intimate dinner for two and watching New Year's eve programming on television. Beats trying to get home in potentially crappy weather and dealing with those traffic check stops and even worse, actual drunk drivers.

The house was full most of the day yesterday. Jimmy and the girls were here along with Staci 2.0. Apparently that is a more serious relationship than we originally thought. We've kind of gotten over the whole break-up of my stepson's marriage. Staci 1.0 has also moved on, it seems. Though her relationship is a little newer so we won't be seeing him at Sunday dinner - we're having dinner next Sunday with Staci 1.o and the girls.

So we had the exchanging of presents and Yaemi - Jimmy's grandmother on Maui - sent us a box of goodies. We got Mango Chutney (my husband loves that with curry), Guava jelly (it's my favorite), Passion Fruit jelly, Hawaiian Host Macadamia nuts - honey glazed and dark chocolate covered, and 100% pure Kona coffee! Oh now that's a treat, indeed! Love, love, love goodies from Hawaii. Other goodies from my relatives include two pairs of rubber slippers (flip flops to you mainlanders), Hawaiian Host Macadamia nuts, Hawaiian print oven mitts and pot holders, some of these Japanese candies with toys in the box (not sure how to tell them I don't really like the candy, only liked them as a child because of the toys), wasabi peas, four boxes of arare (rice crackers) and nori (seaweed) so I can make sushi and musubi. Considering how expensive Asian foods are here, I'm grateful.

Also got a photo of the girls in their Christmas dresses. A couple of coffee mugs, mole skin note books, set of pens and Lord of the Rings trilogy DVD set.

It was fun watching the girls open their presents. Lotus always asks if there are any more presents because she seems to enjoy the process of opening them more than actually playing with them. LOL At least that's what it seems like at every birthday or Christmas. She hasn't been happy that Lula has been old enough to open her own presents without any help for the last two years.

So we had ham, yams, creamed corn, mashed potatoes and rolls for dinner. Staci 2.0 is a vegetarian so she had a lot of yams, creamed corn and potatoes. She's not nuts about the vegetarian thing, though, so it's okay. She does eat turkey at Thanksgiving and still has a burger once in a while because she does still have a craving for meat once in a while. I rather like her since she's just as quirky as our family and hey, she loves Henry Rollins! She also loves R.E.M. and most of the bands I like. She's an only child and she really doesn't want to have children, which is what I think Jimmy finds most attractive about her as he's pretty much done with the having kids business. She loves the girls, they adore her and I think it will work out well should things continue to progress there.

Jim was having a hard time breathing yesterday but other than that we had a good time. The house was LOUD. Jimmy tried to keep it down by reminding the girls "Hey, remember, inside voices!" My favorite moment was as follows:

Jimmy and I were in the kitchen getting the girls' plates ready. The three girls were on the love seat, peering over the half wall between the living room and kitchen singing and laughing and getting louder.

"Hey, girls! Remember, use your inside voices," Jimmy reminded them.

"Why?" Lotus asked.

"Because it's....um...impolite?" Lilly said.

"Well, yeah, that too but mostly because I don't want to have a splitting headache," Jimmy replied.

That got me laughing and it still has me chuckling today. Makes me appreciate the fact that Jimmy was incredibly quiet as a child. I love those little girls but if I had to have them 24/7, I'd probably have had a nervous breakdown by now.

So we played with the new Barbies, the Hannah Montana stuff, the Pet Shop and My Little Ponies and ate a lot of food. The Black Forest Cake I got was pretty good, too. Since the ice has all gone away, I managed to drive out to the grocery store and got some extra rolls and the cake for dessert. Lotus ate all the icing off of it and then said she was full. After her left over cake was tossed, she wanted another piece of cake. I just let her have my frosting as I'm not all that fond of a lot of frosting and there was a lot of frosting on that cake. LOL

I sent some food home with them but we still have a lot. I also made scrapple and we've been eating that, too. It's good I'm home all week because I can probably come up with ways to use up that ham, etc. When I'm working I have a habit of grabbing food at restaurants and/or fast food places because it's easier.

Well, I hope you all had a great Christmas, too. Can't wait for the New Year! Really. No more George Bush - see the countdown clock tick away! - and new episodes of Law & Order: Criminal Intent. That's enough to keep me happy. :-)

I actually think I miss snow....

...after today when the ice had me trapped in my driveway. And of course when I got to work, the parking lot was a sheet of ice. It took me five minutes to walk 20 feet from my car to the door of the office. I almost considered parking out front in the customer parking lot but that was too small and DJ already parked there since the employee door in the back was frozen shut. She drove around to the front of the building and let herself in.

After a day of ice skating, everything hurts from my waist down. Even my butt hurts and I didn't even fall. On the up side, my muscles got a workout today they normally wouldn't have. LOL

So having nothing better to do but sit and hope the Ibuprofen will kick in so I can still try my luck at ice skating in the parking lot of Felpausch so I can get something for dessert for tomorrow's dinner with Jimmy, Staci 2.0 and the girls. Here's hoping the ice will somehow go away. If it doesn't get any better, I'll try and get Jimmy to pick something up on his way here. Battle Creek has better bakeries anyway. Grocery store bakeries are all we have and they're all right but not like real bakeries, IMO.

I leave you with some adorable lolcats celebrating Christmas and the cold in general.

Fluffy Nonsense

So I've been playing dress up. It started with a post on gorengal's Livejournal and ended up with my getting an account to play with Lilly. She thought it was all right but was kind of unimpressed. She'd rather play with Barbie dolls. So grandma decided to play.

My daughter-in-law is playing now, too. I gave her Lilly's account information so she could play at home - we don't let her on the computer without supervision - so when Lilly lost interest, she took over! LOL Ah well, it sounded like a good idea at the time.

Here's my current alter-ego. I started looking very Asian then decided to go for something different.

Seasons Greetings to All!

It's been a rather rough year but I think there are good things ahead for us in 2009. With President Barack Obama in the White House setting things right after 8 years of disastrous mismanagement, it may be tough going but there is hope for a better future.

And of course on a personal obsession level, new episodes of Law & Order: Criminal Intent will be airing at some point in time in 2009.

So have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

A Fan Fic for all Bobby & Alex fans

Just came across this after my last post and had to share it with you all who still aren't following Scribere Est Agere's Livejournal and her beautifully crafted Bobby and Alex stories! This is currently my favorite Bobby and Alex Christmas story. I wish my muse would kick into gear so I could write something. Although no matter when the muse returns, I certainly couldn't write as beautifully as this. It just makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. :-)

Oh and again, it's shippy. Just in case anyone still hasn't figured out how much I love these two as a couple in fan fiction land.

Christmas Is Almost Here!

Yep, getting excited at last! The granddaughters will be over on Saturday to have Christmas so we'll have Christmas twice. Jimmy will be over Christmas day - with or without Staci 2.0 depending on her schedule with her family. It's difficult to do split family Christmas but it's the way of the world these days. Kind of reminds me to rant about that institution of marriage and how we're all so high on it and yet refuse to allow people who actually WANT to be married to be allowed to do so.

But if I did that I'd have to rag on religion and how it tends to stifle progress socially, culturally and ethically. And right now, I want to enjoy the season - which really is a pagan holiday to begin with - and not spoil it with the negatives. Just wait until next week. LOL I've been watching Morning Joe and listening to the intelligent discussion going on from both sides of the subject and I also caught the Huckster - former Republican presidential wannabe Mike Huckabee - on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart. I love Jon Stewart. He says what I'm thinking and is really quite good at discussing opposing view points while still remaining quite pleasant and charming. I think I'd come across more like David Letterman - pissed off and curmudgeonly. Then again that's probably why I love Dave.

In any case, I got a Christmas email from the Obama folks and an actual Christmas card from Republican Senator Chuck Hagel and family of Nebraska! LOL He sent me one last year, too. Guess when you send fan letters you get a card whether or not you're from Nebraska. I'm going to miss Chuck. I hope when Robert Gates steps down as Secretary of Defense, President Obama will get Hagel to take over.

Will try to scan the card at work tomorrow and post it. It shows his family in 2008 and in 1996 when he was first elected to the U.S. Senate. Quite a handsome family. I wish them all the best and hope it's not the last we hear from Chuck Hagel.

I'm sure I'll be online tomorrow but in case I'm not and I don't get a chance to post on Christmas day, I'd just like to wish you all a very Merry Christmas! And I leave you with the Holiday Wrap Up from The Daily Show. They're currently on hiatus until 2009.

Minus 7 degrees fahrenheit

I think I came really close to getting frost bite today. Seriously. I've never been this cold in my entire life. Well, maybe the one winter I stupidly went to visit Minnesota because it was so much fun in the summer. I was living in Hawaii at the time so you gotta know going from 80 degrees to 10 degrees was not a good time. Then I even went ice fishing and remembered why I don't like fishing - not even in warm weather! I'd rather watch paint dry. But that's another story.

So today I decided I should get gas for the car because the rest of the week is going to kind of suck even worse than today. There I was with my winter coat, socks, gloves, scarf and cap in the cold wind, wondering WTF happened to actual service stations and who thought self-serve was a great idea? Oh right, the gas station owners who can cut back on employee costs. Well screw them and their great money saving idea. I want those attendants back!

In the 14 years I've lived here, I don't think I've ever felt that cold! It got to the point where I was so cold I didn't even wait to fill the tank. I just stopped! Fortunately I had my debit card so I didn't have to go inside to pay and then come back outside again. I might have never made it home because I probably wouldn't have wanted to go back outside again.

It's times like these that I miss Hawaii. I keep thinking about how nice it would be to spend Christmas day surfing or something. At the very least laying on the beach. I'll even risk the skin cancer.

Then again, it is Christmas and I love having a white Christmas. As long as I get to stay inside. It's not so bad. Even tonight I'm feeling quite nice and warm now. Once I got the feeling back in my fingers, things got progressively better.

The only other time I hated winter this much was when I was driving home in some blizzard - when I lived 20 miles away from town - after getting done at the tax office late one night. This is when I had visions of my relatives and friends back home in Hawaii hearing of how I froze to death after I got stuck in a snow bank, all shaking their heads saying "We told her not to move to the mainland."

Oh well, I think I'll watch some Criminal Intent. Seeing Vincent D'Onofrio usually makes me feel nice and warm inside. LOL

Winter Weather Advisories

I've pretty much done nothing all day. It was 0 degrees here this morning. Don't think we got any warmer than 3 degrees! It's a good thing I got all my outside stuff done yesterday.

Mostly I've been spending time doing nothing. Well, not NOTHING, but nothing constructive. Caught up on YouTube videos and read some fan fiction and watched a few episodes on Six Feet Under. It gets better with each viewing. I love the Fisher family and their extended friends and relatives. This show is as close to perfection as any series could get, IMO.

Ah well, so really, my mind is mush today so here's a Randomness meme.

Belated Birthday Wishes for Lynnez

I missed her birthday earlier this week so I thought I'd make up for it by sending Bobby and Alex on a present hunt.

Seems they didn't do much better. LOL

Happy Birthday Lynnez! Thanks for the great stories and for being a good friend. :-)

Hope it was a good one!

So much for the huge winter storm

Okay, so the northern counties and Indiana got hit pretty bad. Snow up north and ice down in Indiana and a little bit of snow here. This is what it looks like out my front door this morning.

Winter '08

It's still not great outside because of the lack of adequate funds and the county not being able to take care of all the roads adequately. Side roads are sometimes just not drivable unless you have four wheel drive. The good news is this is the weekend and tomorrow is going to be nice.

Decided to save the DICK Cheney op-ed for after the holidays. We're going with my Merry Christmas one recycled from a couple of years back because it's too busy and there's no way I'm going to get a well thought out and fact checked piece out by the deadline. Thought I'd repost it here. Don't remember if I did it last year or not but I'm too lazy to go look. So here's my Christmas opinion recycled:

Merry Christmas!

As an Asian American who grew up in a Buddhist household in a state where there were as many Buddhist churches as there were Christian churches, I find it incredibly annoying that the phrase "Merry Christmas" has become an issue with people. Suddenly we all have to say "Happy Holidays," which doesn't bother me either but I'd like the option to say "Merry Christmas."

I'm not a Christian. I have been to Christian churches. I even went to Sunday school in the morning as a child with my neighbors. He was a minister at the Church of Christ and he and his wife would take me and my cousin to church with them. In the afternoon I came home and went to Buddhist church services with my mother. It was not a big deal.

My father was an atheist but he had no problems with my going to church. He figured I was smart enough to figure things out by myself and knowledge was never a bad thing. He also celebrated Christmas - not the religious aspect but the whole gift giving, Christmas tree thing. He saw no harm in it and he didn't get all bent out of shape over it. He didn't feel insulted when our neighbors asked if I would like to go to church with them and when I said yes, he thought it was okay with it. My mother was okay with it as well because any teachings about God was good in her mind.

So here I am as an adult. I believe in God. I don't believe in organized religion. For a while I didn't believe in God but I never felt insulted if someone wished me a Merry Christmas. When someone says "God Bless You" or that they will pray for me, I thank them and take it as the kindness it was meant to be. Even in my most cynical days when I thought a belief in God was a delusion necessary for people to tolerate their lives.

It amazes me that the very people who call for tolerance of their non-beliefs would have so little tolerance for those who do believe. I think we should all just relax and stop assuming the worst of people and just accept each other and respect our differences.

With that in mind I'd like to wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Things are looking up!

Things got worked out so I can take off New Year's week! Haven't taken a chunk of time off like that in years. I'm already feeling more cheerful just thinking about it. Am even ready to have Christmas with the brother-in-law and wife. Not that I don't like them. I adore his wife and since he's become more of a liberal, I find my brother-in-law entertaining as well. He was always the charming sort but he seemed rather uptight until he hit 55. Now he's pushing 70 and he's really, really fun. Maybe he's making up for lost time.

Whatever the case, they're bringing lamb chops and other goodies and pretty much all my husband and I have to do is be here. Seems they enjoyed themselves a lot when they were here this past fall. Probably they'll come over the weekend after Christmas. Should be fun.

Good news, bad news at LOCI. Seems Julianne Nicholson, a.k.a Detective Megan Wheeler, is pregnant again in real life. There's a rumor that they will try and write her pregnancy into the show this time. Now all we have to hope and pray about is they don't get a temp while she's off on maternity leave. It seems every 'temporary' partner assigned to the male detectives of Major Case are red headed females. No offense to red headed females. It's just since they are supposedly rare, how come so many of them happened to decide to become cops with the NYPD? LOL Just a thought.

Let's see....Vincent made an appearance in Cadillac Records. It was just a cameo for which he wasn't even credited. How that escaped the notice of his very diligent fans I don't know! Basric has capped the scene here. Eric Bogosian also appears in this.

Speaking of Eric, he apparently disagrees with other members of the SAG New York board and has posted a letter stating so. Apparently Eric is supporting a strike vote. The letter has been posted at various sites. Here's the link to the one at The Reel.

Also, Jeff has been making the talk show rounds promoting his new film Adam Resurrected and also LOCI when time allows. He seems really happy to be on the show and is pleased with the character they've created for him. He was most recently on Conan and he's just really cute. Here are videos of his appearance on Conan posted at the Ultimate Jeff Goldblum.

Oh well, that's all the news I have for now. Still no word as to when LOCI season 8 will debut. I'm not a happy camper but am trying to look on the bright side. Someone help me find a bright side? LOL Just kidding. I really am just happy to have a season 8 and if things go as well as they did last season, maybe a season 9 and 10? Here's hoping!

I'm off to visit more places on the web. Am currently working on an op-ed about why I think Dick Cheney and Don Rumsfeld should be tried as war criminals. I'm going to be so popular in this conservative town! LOL

Liberal Media?

So, here I am wondering where the so-called liberal media is lately. I have never really seen them around except at MSNBC. Conservatives who don't like reality claim the liberal media is everyone except FIX news.

Well, let me tell you about that liberal media. They are currently harassing President Elect Obama to disregard the request of U.S. Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald and explain his dealings with that sleaze ball Blagojevich. Apparently after 8 years of the Bush Administration's blatant disregard for the law and their attitude that they are above the law, the so-called liberal media is amazed and critical of President Elect Obama for listening to the U.S. Attorney and respecting his request.

Will the drawn out case of Governor Blagojevich hurt the Obama Aministration because he won't speak out? They ask. Yes, assholes if you keep asking about it. All this gossip and speculation and questioning is their job I suppose. But really, why weren't they this relentless over oh, let's see, former Attorney General Alberto Gonzales and his wrongful firing of U.S. Attorneys for political purposes was mentioned as a blurb in various newspapers and no one was having long, drawn out discussions over it. In fact, if you weren't paying constant attention to the news you might very well have missed that little event.

There's just so much stupidity I can take and if one more conservative talks to me about the liberal media I'm going to go postal. The media is sensationalist, not liberal. Of course I'm sure conservatives have no problems with the media discussing this Balgojevich association with Obama.

Obama has stated that he has been tempted to answer all the questions in regards to the matter of the Illinois Governor, but is abiding by the request of the U.S. Attorney's office. Maybe the media is in shock because they're used to the president NOT complying with requests by various government agencies and courts.

Anyone else get the feeling they've spent so much time building him up they are now chomping at the bit to bring him down? Fickle media.

I'm not saying Barack Obama is squeaky clean but unless it's proven otherwise, I'm cutting the guy some slack. And before any of my conservative friends say I'm only doing it because he's a liberal, those who remember me from way back will also remember that I did give Dubya the benefit of the doubt on those WMD's when we first went into Iraq. And I'm the first to say not everything that is wrong with this economy is Bush's fault. It's the fault of Republicans in Congress who pushed deregulation. Even Alan Greenspan admitted he was wrong for having faith in the free market. It doesn't WORK without oversight because people become greedy assholes when playing with high stakes on Wall Street.

Just like Governors, Presidents, Senators, Congressmen, Mayors and other public officials sometimes get power hungry and do stupid, stupid things because they think they are infallible. Their over inflated egos make them think they can get away with anything. The blatant disregard for the law seems to come with a God complex.

Oh let's not forget vice presidents who seem to think torture is all right and that stating they would have gone to war with Iraq regardless of any evidence of WMD's. It makes you kind of wonder what kind of Kool Aid they're drinking in Washington, D.C. these days.

And on another political note, I have to put in a plug for my new favorite morning show. It's MSNBC's token conservative, Joe Scarborough's show, Morning Joe. Why? Because it's a show that discusses the issues with a variety of left and right wingers and other supposedly neutral analysts and they have fun. I also rather like Mika Brzenski - daughter of Zbignew who was Jimmy Carter's National Security Adviser. She is co-hosts and reads the news and puts up with the antics of Scarborough and company quite well.

It's the best morning show on television for those who couldn't care less about what's going on with Brittany Spears or what the latest winter fashions are. Sorry, Today Show but anything that happens after your first hour is a snore. Okay, I have to admit, if anyone from LOCI is on or if they've got a good musical guest performing, I'll tune in for that. But the fluff leading up to it is enough to put me back to sleep.

CNN has some annoying hosts early in the morning and I ABC and CBS don't have anything better than Today. And of course I don't need my blood pressure going up first thing in the morning so I don't watch FIX news at all until later in the day.

Morning Joe is intelligent, fun and they play great music! Mostly classic rock but some more modern artists as well. As they fade out to commercial breaks you can hear Bruce Springsteen, U2, The Who, Rolling Stones, David Bowie, Smashing Pumpkins, Kansas and a lot of others I really enjoy.

While Joe Scarborough and I don't agree on a lot but he's not like that bombastic jerk Bill O'Reilly. In other words he doesn't believe in the "if you yell louder than the other guy you're right" theory O'Reilly seems to follow. They have respectful discussion and some light hearted kidding. Sure you get the occasional hot head but it's all handled very well and not once have I heard any discussion on the latest Christmas decorations or fashions.

Now I'm all for frivolity and silliness but first thing in the morning I want to know what's going on and I want to wake my brain up. I want to sit with my morning cup of coffee and my husband and wake up while watching grown ups talking about the news. Fluff is only good if it's fluff I'm interested in. As a 49 year old woman, I have no desire to see a New Kids on the Block concert on the plaza (as a side note, do not name your group something like New Kids on the Block because when you reunite as thirty year olds it sounds kind of silly). I'm sure they're fine entertainers but not my cup of tea.

If you want to know what fluff I do like look at my side bar. LOL

So if you want to watch something informative, thought provoking and intelligent, watch Morning Joe on MSNBC. And if there's good fluff on another station you can always tune in for that one segment.

Ice Storm Coming!

So we got dumped on. It's pretty outside but it was hell to drive in yesterday. Now we hear there's going to be an ice storm tomorrow. Guess winter is hitting with a vengeance again. The good news? I have a garage to keep my car in so this year, the chances of my car doors freezing shut are much less. Last year was horrible.

Want to get caught up some more with some things I wanted to post before but still need to catch up on after living in my little cave for the past week or so.

First, some interesting Logan fan fiction by ChurchofFreebird at Fan Fiction. She follows Logan as a single dad and I find them rather fun to read. Logan is in character and I can see him running across a child he didn't know he fathered from years before. Check them out.

Second, belated HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Lynnez! I hope it was a good one. And she also has a new story out - Goren/Eames ship, of course. It's called Lover's Walk and can be found at an Fan Fiction as well. Nice respite from all the angst they've been suffering from the last few years.

Third, I want to pimp my own work - just because I have nothing new to offer and am trying to figure out a way to lure my muse back - from either last Christmas or the one before. I honestly can't remember as it's been so long since I've written any fiction at all! But here it is on my fan fiction blog. It's called A LOCI Christmas Carol. It seems to be my best seller as far as fiction goes - I go by number of subscriptions, reviews and hits to the pages at fanfic. I have to admit it's my favorite of all my stories - except for the one where Goren and Eames get stuck in an elevator with Ross, called The Elevator Incident just because it was written for pure comic relief. LOL And again, ALL my LOCI fan fic has at least a hint of shippiness in it so be warned.

Fourth, Basric has posted caps and scripts from the Utah interview Vincent did. Thought I'd point people in that direction so you can check it out. :-)

Fifth, I finally got around to the Cat for this week so here it is:

Week Number 148

1) What one quality of your father’s would you most like to share?

Because I am told I am exactly like my father in many ways - and I have to agree - I have to say the quality we share that I am most pleased with is his thirst for knowledge. My father had to quit school at a very young age - 14, 15 or 16 I'm not sure which as he didn't like talking about his lack of formal education much - but never stopped educating himself. He read voraciously and engaged political, historical and religious discussion with relish. I appreciate that more than anything.

2) Among all the people you know, who would you like to have known when s/he was a child?

My husband so I could tell him how brilliant he really is and to not have that self-doubt instilled in him inadvertently by well-meaning parents who wanted him to be more like his brother when he wasn't.

3) If you wanted to meditate for a whole day, where would you do it?

If I lived in Hawaii I'd go to the beach - a local beach on a week day with no tourists and hardly anyone else around me. Or I'd go surfing. Being out on the waves is like being one with nature. I love the Pacific ocean. There's something very Zen about being out on the ocean, just you and the water, riding a wave in to shore.

4) What is your favorite thing to do in a city park?

Walk the dog - when I had one. Now I'd probably enjoy taking my granddaughters to play so I could sit and watch. LOL

5) Show and Tell. What comes to mind first when you see this picture? Or, tell a story if it reminds you of one.

Mental Health Day

Well, I took a mental health day and will try and get a few more in. It was nice to not have to deal with grouchy people. I'm in a much better mood this evening after just doing personal chores.

It's snowing like crazy and I would have taken a picture but I was too busy trying to get home before it got really ugly outside. Because of increased cost for snow plowing and salt, the county is cutting back on plowing roads. They're concentrating n the main roads and leaving the side ones until they become unmanageable. That's not how they describe the side road situation but that's how I see it. Now I'm wishing I had that crappy old truck I junked last April. LOL

Lots has been going on around the web. I've been around but haven't had time or desire to post. Hopefully with this mental health day I'll feel better. I'm trying to work my schedule so I can be off on New Year's week. That would make me feel a LOT better.

Oh and just realized I have a lot of presents beneath my little tree at the bottom of the page! Also, apologies for the Vincent video playing automatically but I can't seem to figure out how to make it not do that when it comes up so bear with my until it leaves the page. I want to keep it so I can periodically watch it and hear his voice so I remember what he sounds like. With the question of LOCI's start date still up in the air, it makes me feel better to hear him.

Between Vincent and Jeff making appearances in between filming, I'm hoping it will carry me through until the start of LOCI. There are more photos and information here at Team 13 Projects of Vincent's appearances in Utah.

Oh and BobbyG capped and quoted the episode 'Homo Homini Lupis' while I've been sitting in my little cave. Here are the various caps. First there's Eames, then Partners, Extras, Just Bobby, and the main feature - Quotes. I love her caps - especially the 'extras' where in this batch you can see his tongue. LOL I think it's adorable.

And Scribere Est Agere, one of my favorite fan fic authors has put all her 100 word challenge stories in one at the fan fiction site here. Again, it's shippy so non-shippers can avoid it. Sadly, you will be missing some great writing. I'd try and find non-shippy stories but find I can't keep my interest in them.

So there's a lot going on in the fandom. I've just been lazy and unable to make myself write anything that isn't for work. I'm feeling better today and miss my blog, though so I'll be boring you all to death again on a regular basis.

Oh and for Jeff Goldlbum fans, keep up on all the latest at these sites: Jeff Goldblum Online, The Ultimate Jeff Goldblum, Jeff Goldblum - Law & Order: Criminal Intent, and Zach Nichols - Hot Detective.
Let's see, I've not been keeping up with videos so that will have to wait until I find some. I'm sure there are a lot from my music and LOCI obsessions but I haven't been keeping up.

Politically? Wow, there's so much to say, so little time so I'll work on it and probably post on the weekend. Between Governor Blagojevich and all the bullshit being thrown around about Caroline Kennedy not being qualified to be senator from New York, I really have a lot to say.

Oh and DICK Cheney just said he would have gone to war no matter whether or not Sadam had WMDs. He was bound and determined to go to war no matter what. So thanks, DICK, for proving to us that you all manipulated the intelligence to suit your purpose. This unnecessary war is on your head. You are responsible for the deaths of more Americans than the 911 terrorists. Good thing you don't have a conscience, Mr. Vice President, because if you did you probably wouldn't be able to live with yourself. It's bad enough we had to live with you for the last eight years.

It's never boring in politics. I'm constantly amazed at the audacity of public officials no matter what side of the aisle they're standing on. But really, the Bush Administration has taken the cake. I hope there is some time for legal action against them. I know the economy is more important right now but really, these assholes need to pay. Liars and morally bankrupt every one of them. No one has even mentioned former Attorney General Alberto Gonzales and his being found guilty of firing judges who didn't want to further the administration's policies. The firings were politically motivated and he should be called on it. I want to see these people on TRIAL. I want Karl Rove dragged in front of Congress, not spouting off on FIX news like some all-knowing, evil garden gnome.

Ah yes, I'm definitely feeling better.

And with that, I leave you with this photo I came across and had on my computer for a couple of years I believe. It's Caroline Kennedy and Kathryn Erbe at some event. I forget exactly what it was for since it's been so long and I didn't caption it. But I've always been fond of Caroline Kennedy even though I haven't been enamored with all her family members. So to any Hillary Clinton folks who dare to say Caroline Kennedy hasn't had the necessary experience, remember they said the same thing about Hillary when she ran for the senate from New York. And quite frankly, Caroline Kennedy at least really IS from New York. She didn't move there just to run for office.

Not dead quite yet but getting closer...

...every day. No, I'm not physically ill. I am quite sick of shopping and wrapping and tomorrow mailing off crap for Christmas. Seems the Scrooge in me has come out and I'm in the fed up and hating Christmas stage. I may also be slightly depressed as I am finding myself with very little patience for ornery people and people who think they are the fucking center of the entire universe....but enough about that. Just wanted to post something today. Here's a Randomness meme:

12.14.08 Happy Holidays random word association

12.14.08 Happy Holidays random word association I say, you think:

1. santa

Jolly old fat man in a red suit - or Dennis, the guy at work who plays Santa at various events around town during Christmas. His wife plays Mrs. Claus. They're cute.

2. holiday carols

Not fond of Christmas carols. Please no one come caroling at my house. Yeah, I'm the modern day Scrooge when it comes to "Fa la la, la la..."

3. snow

Cold and yucky if I'm in it, pretty and enchanting when I'm inside looking out.

4. mistletoe

Avoid them at all costs. If you think I don't like hugging people I'm certainly not into being kissed. If you're not my husband or grandchild, keep your lips to yourself please. Other exceptions, Vincent D'Onofrio, Johnny Depp, Harvey Keitel and Henry Rollins. :-)

5. season

Winter. Sorry, that's all I got.

6. candy cane

Peppermint. Again, that's it.

7. eggnog

Best dairy product ever made!

8. presents

How about we not bother? Just sort of make Christmas like Thanksgiving and just get together and eat? *sigh* Yeah, the granddaughters would be too disappointed. Could never get away with it.

Vincent In Utah

I've been looking at these all day but I haven't had time to post. I know others have already posted but as usual, I want a copy for myself. It's a sickness but please don't try to cure me. I'm having too good a time. ;-)

Vincent D'Onofrio is in Utah for the following: American Fork

And of course to promote his sister's Rib City restaurant, which he is a co-owner of. He made an appearance on Good Things Utah in the clip below.

Discovered the video and the following photos at Major Case.

He's looking happier than his alter-ego Bobby Goren and that's a good thing. He just seems to have a great sense of self and he seems to be most at ease when not talking about himself but about the causes he supports. I like that. He also said LOCI will be back in January! Okay, so Jeff Goldblum said March, he's saying January. That tells me USA hasn't even told their stars anything so why should we expect any better treatment?

Sorry, I'm still so pissed over the whole postponing the show bullshit. Yes, I know the change of show runners for the Jeff Goldblum half of the episodes may have played a part in the decision but since they had enough shows to film through December, you'd think they would have gone ahead and aired the episodes.

Oh well, please, please, please let Vincent be right about the start date. I want to see Goren and Eames and I want to get to know Zach Nichols. I REALLY, REALLY want to see Jeff Goldblum's debut. I keep getting little tidbits about the character and I can so see him in that role.

I also really want to know what's happening with Captain Ross and M.E. Rodgers - if there's anything still happening. *sigh* Hey, someone on that show needs to have a happy personal life. Being divorced, I don't think Nichols is going to be any happier and of course after the way last season ended for Wheeler, I'm sure she's not happy either. And of course if Goren isn't happy, Eames is probably miserable, too.

Well, enough on that. I'm just suffering from blogging withdrawal. Not enough hours in the day this week. Here's hoping next week will be closer to normal.

Busy Week....

Not much time for blogging lately. Just the occasional comment or two at other people's blogs have been difficult enough to find time for! I'm really starting to hate Christmas again. I start off happy about it, then I get frustrated, then stressed and once the day arrives, I'm relieved and then the grandchildren make me happy because they're happy.

People around here are grouchy and because we're short handed I have to deal with the general public more than I'd like to. Also the phones aren't working well because we got this fancy new digital phone system and almost every other day someone has to come fix it. We've had one phone line that we had to busy out because people would call us and they would get cut off the minute we picked up the line. When we tried to call out on it, it seemed like nothing happened after we dialed the number. Not so. Trinity said he tried calling someone four times on line three because it was the only one open and they called him back because they recognized his voice.

His voice? Yep, that's right his voice. When calling out on line 3, we couldn't hear them but they could hear us. So all those exclamations of "Damn phone," "crappy phone system," "son of a bitch it's not working again," and "shit," were probably heard by people we were trying to call on that line. I'm the one who said "Crappy phone system." I've heard the other terms from co-workers. Wonderful.

People are taking vacation days because it's use it or lose it by the end of the year. So we're already on a skeleton crew and when people take time off, it ends up really screwing with our regular work because we have to cover for each other. So it's a constant matter of playing catch up.

With that in mind, I'm around but if I don't post I'm just busy trying to keep only one or two projects behind as opposed to the four I had at the end of last week.

Hope all is well with everyone out there. Should be playing catch up on the weekend. :-)

28 Years Ago Today

It's been such a busy day today. I never got around to being online to do my checking of news sites, etc. And for some reason I've had my head up my butt or something because today is the anniversary of John Lennon's assassination and I didn't even think of it until I visited Val at Life and Vincent. She's got a beautiful video tribute there. Check it out.

If I had my act together I'd have thought to do something but alas, I'm just going to have to direct you to various other things I have finally found around the web today. Here's MSNBC's Remembering John Lennon. Here's a John Lennon site I found a while back called Absolute Elsewhere: The Spirit of John Lennon for those who don't know much about John Lennon. I had one girl, aged 23, tell me all she knew was he wrote the song Imagine, was in the Beatles and was shot by some crazed fan. I figure she can't be the only one who doesn't know what John Lennon meant to a whole generation of people. And here's the official site.

It's amazing how quickly time flies. I still remember having a very hard time getting the narrative track for the tribute show we ran at the student radio station down. It proved my point that it had to be done pre-recorded because live would have been a mess as I couldn't keep myself from crying at various points in the recording process. It played in lieu of my rock show that night. We were all stunned and depressed and couldn't believe it.

I still cry when I think back on it. Even after all these years it still hurts to have lost him so violently.

Monday Meme

Another one from the Cat.

Week Number 147

1) What one quality of your mother’s would you most like to share?

Her self-control and will power when it comes to moderation in all things. Me, I obsess and I tend to have moments of excess. I have to really try hard to be moderate. If not I end up spending way too much time [fill in the blank with any activity I enjoy] and not enough time doing other things that I should be doing. If I don't pay attention, I end up eating half a pound of M & M's and then find myself being sick. It's happened before when I was single, living alone and could eat anything I wanted for dinner. Of course I haven't been single for over two decades so that kind of helps. Mom was great at being self-moderating. I'm more like my dad.

2) If you promised never to lie about anything ever again, in what area of your life would be it the hardest for you to keep the promise?

Probably the part where I call in sick and really just want to stay home because I'm sick of dealing with irritable people. I say that because today, it seems like every other person who walked into the newspaper office was pissed off and annoyed about something and over half of them were angry over stupid things and trying to nicely explain it was very frustrating when they kept being complete assholes.

3) If you found a fifty dollar bill in a vacant lot, what would you do with it?

I'd probably take it, run a found ad in the paper (three days free for found ads - free forever for employees) that read, "Cash found. Call [newspaper phone number] and let me know where and how much to claim." After three days if no one claims it or can claim it by providing the correct information, I'd buy pizza for my co-workers for lunch.

4) What good deed that you didn’t do when you had the opportunity do you wish you had done?

Spent more time with my grandmother in her last years when she was in a nursing home. My mother went to see her every weekend. I'd go with her pretty regularly but being a self-centered teenager, I really wanted to do other things and often went off with friends instead.

To this day I feel badly about it. That's why I went to visit my mother every day in the nursing home when she was there for three months for rehab from her broken hip. When I did take a Sunday off to spend time with the kids and grandchild - we had just one at the time - I felt horribly guilty. Every time someone told me how good I was I felt guilty because really, I was just making up for being horrible when I was teenager.

5) Show and Tell. What comes to mind first when you see this picture? Or, tell a story if it reminds you of one.

Reminds me of an old mixer my aunt had in her kitchen.

Sunday Revelations (pun intended)

We spent a rather quiet day at home. No family around because I'm sick and don't want to infect the little girls and because I can't deal with the little girls - parent in attendance or not - when I'm sick. I'm actually starting to feel better but not that better.

So besides sticking a ham in the oven and roasting some coffee for the week, we watched a lot of television. Mostly DVDs of Six Feet Under and Law & Order: Criminal Intent episodes. But then we turned the television on because my husband found a Pink Panther marathon on WGN America. I love Peter Sellers. Between Dr. Strangelove and Inspector Clouseau, he's provided me with more laughter than almost anyone except perhaps the Monty Python crew.

As I watched the hapless detective go about being bumbling and stupid but all the while thinking he's some great detective, I couldn't help but think of how much he reminds me of Sarah Palin.
I'm sure the comparison must have been made before and I just pushed it to the back of my mind because I feel like it's so obvious someone must have noticed. They both bumble around, are difficult to understand when they speak, they think they're really smart, they fool some people into thinking they're qualified for positions they are clearly not qualified to take, their idiocy provides moments of great mirth to many.

The difference, Inspector Clouseau is a fictional character whose antics won't do anything that affects in the real world. Sarah Palin is real and she's out there frightening the hell out of us. Well, most of us. There are those who seem to think she's quite capable of governing the country when she apparently isn't doing such a hot job in Alaska.

Just a thought.

Just a lazy Sunday revelation to share. Hope your weekend was as peaceful as mine. It's snowing outside and it looks very pretty.

Pearl Harbor Revisited

My Uncle Yoshio and my mom circa 1945
Wahiawa, Hawaii

It's December 7th and since I apparently have a larger readership than I did last year, I thought I'd reprint this post from last year. Prior to that it was written for an op-ed three years ago. I added the photo of my mom and her youngest brother who was about to ship off to basic training.

Pearl Harbor, A Japanese American Perspective

On December 7, 1941 life changed for the citizens of the United States. It was an attack against America in a shockingly violent way. That day began one of the dark periods of America's history. America was jolted into the realization that the world was a dangerous and violent place. Hitler and Mussolini in Europe and Tojo in Japan, the axis of evil in their day, dragged the world into chaos.

On the morning of December 7, 1941, my father was sleeping in because it was Sunday. He was supposed to meet his friend for breakfast in Wahiawa town but had overslept. Wahiawa is the town located right next to Schofield Barracks and what was then Wheeler Air Force Base.

On the morning of December 7, 1941, my mother was at home with her family. She was reading the newspaper when her youngest brother came running into the house shouting, "The Japs are bombing Pearl Harbor! The Japs are bombing Pearl Harbor!"

Considering the fact that my family was Japanese, it did not please my grandfather that his son would be using the rather disparaging term to describe the Japanese. That is until he realized what he was actually saying. The Japanese were attacking the island.

As they stood there trying to make sense of what my uncle was saying, the sound of airplanes flying overhead sent them running to the living room windows and my uncles out the door into the yard. They looked up and saw the planes. Airplanes with the rising sun painted on their undersides, declaring to all the world who they were. They were heading towards Schofield Barracks and Wheeler Air Force Base, which was the principal fighter base at the time.

My grandmother screamed at her sons to come back inside. They promptly did so but still went to the windows to watch the planes.

My grandfather joined them at the window as my mother and grandmother sat on the couch, terrified by the sight of those kamikazi pilots as they flew overhead and the words my uncle shouted as he ran into the house.

Meanwhile in Wahiawa town, a young Japanese American man waited for his friend to meet him for breakfast. He must have heard the engines of the Japanese planes buzzing overhead and looked up to see them. I wonder if he ran down the street in panic or if he just stood there as they shot down the road of the town? What was the last thing on his mind as the bullets hit him in the stomach and he died? I wonder if my father thought about that? I wonder if he felt somehow guilty about not being there? Would his friend have been inside when it happened and not been shot? Or would they both have been out there on the sidewalk when it happened and would both of them have been killed?

My father never spoke much of his WWII experience since it was the beginning of some of the worst times in his life. It certainly was a test of his patriotism, which stayed true no matter what. Relatives in "relocation" camps and being suspected of being a traitor merely by virtue of his race, watching his friends volunteer to go fight in Europe while some of their relatives were being held in those camps and watching many of them die would be enough to test anyone's faith in one's country. Not my father. He wanted to volunteer as well but was legally blind in one eye and wasn't able to join the Army. He was just happy to keep his job with the Department of Defense.

He never told me about how he applied to the Japanese Consulate in Honolulu to have his Japanese citizenship revoked. All nissei - second generation Japanese-Americans - had dual citizenship because their parents were citizens of Japan. Never mind that none of them had ever been to Japan and related more to apple pie and celebrated the Fourth of July with the rest of America. After he had passed away and my mother and I were going through his things, I found the certificate that made it official. He had gone out of his way to cut any ties with Japan in December 1940. A whole year before Pearl Harbor. I can only imagine it was getting pretty bad for Japanese in America even starting back then.

No, my father never spoke of WWII, except to tell me of his friend who was killed and of my aunts, two of his sisters who lived on the mainland at the time, being sent to those "relocation camps." I know how it profoundly affected his life, however. That also affected my life to some extent. The general disdain I had for anything Japanese and my cultural heritage was probably due to the non-spoken but implied disdain my father seemed to hold for it. It wasn't until I was teenager in the 70s that he finally seemed to come to terms with things and started to once again embrace things about the Japanese culture. Food for example. By that time, however, the blueprints had been set and I was dead set against being anything but a western-oriented, girl. It didn't happen until my 30s for me. That realization that I am a Japanese-American who hadn't bothered to learn much about her heritage and currently I am still trying to make up for it.

My mother told me stories. She told me about how after that day, soldiers came to their house and took away their radios to check for transmitters. They got them back a few weeks later. She told me how my grandparents took their pictures of the Emperor, a Japanese flag my grandfather had from when he served in the Japanese army years before came to Hawaii and a certificate he had from his service in the Japanese military - again, years before he left Japan and moved to Hawaii - and burned them.

When they came to take the ministers of the Japanese churches and the Japanese School principal to the "relocation" camps on the mainland, my grandmother and mother tended to the church they belonged to. There were no church services during the war but my mother and grandmother tended to the yard, garden and made sure the shrine was always provided with food and offerings.

She told me how her friends went to volunteer for military service. How they joined the 442nd "Go For Broke" unit made up of Japanese Americans from Hawaii and California. The group my father had really wanted to join. My uncles wanted to go and volunteer as well but my grandfather, who was incredibly bitter about the whole "relocation camp" situation, forbid them from going and volunteering. He said if they were drafted they would go but not before. He said his sons volunteering to risk their lives for the country that had taken innocent people from their homes and property and locked them up behind barbed wire with soldiers wearing the same uniform they'd be wearing, standing guard ready to shoot anyone who tried to leave, was not right. Those people never got back what they lost and had to rebuild from scratch when they were let out of those camps.

I was shown pictures of her cousin Tsugio, who was a translator for the Army during the war, visiting his mother and sisters in one of those camps. It was very surreal for me. A Japanese-American man wearing a U.S. Army uniform, sitting in the middle of a relocation camp where his family members were being held. No wonder my grandfather was so angry.

My mother told me how she was called on that morning of December 7, 1941 by her boss at the laundry she worked at. He was a Korean man who needed to open the office on Schofield, where my mother worked at the time, so soldiers could come get their uniforms. My mother at first refused. "I'm Japanese! I'm not going there! They won't let me!" she argued.

Her boss assured her it was all right and that they knew she was Japanese but they would be escorted by the M.P.s and they knew she wasn't a spy or anything. She HAD to help, he said. We were at war.

After assuring her parents it would be all right, my mother got dressed and waited for her boss to come pick her up. They both drove to Schofield barracks, nervously looking at the sky, worried that the planes might be coming back.

They were met at the main gate to Schofield Barracks by the M.P.s who escorted them to the laundry. A line of soldiers were waiting as my mother and her boss opened up shop and began getting uniforms back to them. She was there all day.

At the end of the day they closed up shop and my mother didn't go back to that office until after the war was over. She stayed at the main office in Wahiawa town instead.

Shortly after December 7, soldiers came to their house and took their radio. All radios were being confiscated and checked to make sure they weren't transmitting. I believe they were returned eventually.

Apparently they did issue special IDs for Japanese Americans. I found one among my mother's things while we were moving to the mainland from Hawaii. I asked her about it and she said it was issued during the war. All Japanese-Americans were required to have them.

I can't imagine living like that. My parents and their generation of Japanese-Americans are true patriots. They stood behind their country no matter what it did to them. They fought and gave their lives for this country while their families were kept locked up behind barbed wire fences, treated as common criminals because of fear and ignorance. I don't know that I would have it in me to forgive such transgressions.

On December 7, as we remember the sacrifices of those who died at Pearl Harbor, I also stop to think about the way it changed everything for my family and others like them. It truly was a dark day in our history in so many more ways than most people realize. A time I hope never to see repeated again.

It's the Weekend!

It's been a loooooonnnngggg week and I even had a day off on Monday. It's not a wonderful time of year work wise. We're busier and short handed. Oh and one of our carriers had a stroke last weekend so his route is in disarray and people have been calling to the point where all six lines are constantly busy. Then there's the phone lines not working well and cutting people off or being busied out all the time. Ever try talking to someone when the phone line is echoing? Most frustrating.

We do have fun moments, though. Like the other day when Joyce in Classified was sick and I was filling in all day for her. The boss was sending one of the girls out for donuts and requested she get buttermilk donuts.

"You know, those plain donuts. Buttermilk donuts. But I think they call them sour cream donuts, don't know why," he rambles within earshot of me.

"Uh, maybe because they're made of sour cream, not buttermilk," I say with a shrug. He gives me the same look he gives Joyce when she makes those remarks that says, stop being a smart ass. So I just shrugged and said, "It's the chair!" I was sitting in Joyce's chair at the time.

Everyone burst into laughter and he said it was nice to have me in the office all day. He was laughing , too, by the way. You have to have a sense of humor in this job.

And of course there's the salesman, Leo. I like Leo. He's funny and has a good work ethic. He's the same guy who forgot to buy Mandy, the pregnant lady, some food and got himself in trouble.

Seems he has a new ring tone for his text messages. It's someone saying "Message." It starts out regular and progressively gets louder until the voice is screaming "MESSAGE" almost hysterically. It's funny the first time you hear it. Then, it's not so funny. He's on notice that if that thing goes off while it's sitting on his desk and he's not around to answer it right away, I'm going to take it and toss it in the toilet. LOL

Because I was in a bad mood earlier in the day and tossed someone's coffee in the trash because it was sitting on the counter for half an hour without being claimed, he believed me and now carries his phone everywhere. The funny thing is he was waiting on someone at the counter who wanted to buy a "Smiles" ad and it started going off. We raced for it. He got it first but it took him a while to shut it off. He's going to change it back to something less obnoxious. LOL

"I was only kidding, Leo, I would have just turned it off," I said when he informed me of the new ring tone.

"Yeah, I thought so but you and D.J. scare me so I thought I'd just keep you happy. It's safer that way," he said with a smile.

Nice to know at five feet tall I am intimidating to people through pure attitude. LOL

So work is made tolerable by my co-workers. It's nice to have some fun through all the stress.

Politics has been rather interesting. Love Barack's new cabinet so far. Also am quite interested in Caroline Kennedy's possibly replacing Hillary as Senator from New York. I was also quite irritated at some in the media saying they don't know if she's qualified for such a position. Okay, fair enough question. But then they went on to compare her to Sarah Palin.

Okay, that's just stupid. Caroline Kennedy isn't an idiot. She speaks proper English so we can understand what she's saying. She is a Harvard Graduate. She is a Columbia Law School graduate. She is an attorney. She is an author. She is bright.

Is she ready to be president? Maybe not. Is she ready to be vice president? I don't know. But she is from New York - she's not a carpetbagger, she is bright, because of her family she's been involved in politics in some way all her life. She is aware of the issues and she's not some attention seeking person who thinks hate speeches and riling up the base is a good thing.

After hearing of the things she's done in Alaska, I don't think Sarah Palin is qualified to be the Governor of Alaska even. But they elected her and she's their problem. If only the media would just ignore her so she would go away it would be great. But no, they have to keep following her around. Maybe they're hoping for more turkey farm moments.

And finally, I've found a great way to stop being annoyed at the forums. I put anyone who annoys me more than twice on ignore. That way I can lessen the chances of being annoyed to the point of ranting.

Hope you all are having a great weekend. Thanks again for the presents and to the lurkers for letting me know you enjoy my insanity.

It's snowing here and very cold. I even bought socks to wear and I hate socks. They make my feet too hot in snow boots and shoes but not this year.

Here's what it looks like at my place. Sorry it's blurry but I took it from my bedroom window because I'm not about to go outside again today. Did it once and am at my limit. LOL

The snow is still falling. The good thing is it's putting me in the mood for Christmas. :-)

Why some people suck.....

....the joy right out of living.

Before I continue, full disclosure time. I am recovering from a cold, it's that time of the month for me, work has been really busy and somewhat stressful, I didn't sleep well last night because post nasal drip was making me cough and it's so cold here I am cold (it takes a lot to make me feel like it's too cold because I generally like the cold). So it's not like my mood is the best.

But I think I know why many Vincent fans don't bother with forums. There are people there who are so superficial and two-faced it's getting on my nerves.

You know, if you're a fan of a person, it's fine to say you think they're not doing something you like but if they keep bothering you over and over again - and you say so over and over again - wouldn't you stop calling yourself a fan? I would. I wish they would too and stop inflicting themselves on the rest of us. This one annoyance thinks speaking up and saying negative things about someone at a fan site dedicated to the actor is cool apparently. No, it's not. If you do so with the knowledge you're upsetting people, then you're not being cool you're engaging in troll like behavior. Get some class and stop being so snide. It's a small world within fandoms and most people do visit all the sites related to it whether or not they do so publicly or not -lurking as it were.. A person's behavior at all the sites are noticed because while most of us post at one or two forums, we tend to forum hop and lurk from time to time. So don't kiss up to the folks at one forum only to talk about them at another. We all talk so even if we don't go to certain sites anymore, we hear things. So many of us know who praises people at one sit and then makes snide remarks at another.

Again, I'm probably just in a really bad mood but this has been bothering me for a while now. I don't want to engage in specifics. I'm just ranting to let off steam. I'm all for speaking one's mind but with prudence and with some sense of diplomacy. And really with some people it's just not worth it.

I think I'm taking a vacation from forums for a while so if you all don't see me around a lot, I'm still here. If you want to find me, I'll be at the blogs of those of us who are apparently so enamored of Vincent we can't be 'objective.' Being objective is important in politics and other life decisions, not in fandoms. So if you think you're better than all of us who love everything about Vincent no matter what, you go on thinking that and please don't bother us at fan sites dedicated to him.

Rant over now.

On a brighter note, thanks to all who gave me presents below. It's been fun!

And with that I leave you with a few photos of Vincent to appreciate or not. If you don't no problem. I just don't want to hear about it. LOL If I can't have him for Christmas I'll do the next best thing. I'll have Santa deliver photos. ;-)

Vincent Sighting!

It's been all over the internet already but I've been busy. For some reason work has been really hectic and I've got three projects going and none of them are getting done! It's frustrating because we're so busy but we're short handed because people are either sick or trying to use up their vacation time before it lapses.

So here it is, better late than never. Vincent D'Onofrio attended Liza Minnelli's return to Broadway on opening night Dec. 3. He apparently decided to cut off his gorgeous locks.

A lot of Vixens are in mourning for the los of those gorgeous locks. This is what he looks like with longer hair.

I have to admit I'm missing the curls but I don't hate the look. My husband keeps his hair pretty short like that, too. Oh well, it will grow back. And in the mean time, he still makes my heart flutter. ;-)

Here's a photo I got from my friend Nina that I didn't have when I made the slide show. Vincent was accompanied by his lovely wife Carin Van Der Donk. Thanks for the photos Nina!

So I'm off to nurse my cold and see if I can be more productive at work tomorrow.

So is it March yet?

That's when Law & Order: Criminal Intent is supposed to start according to Jeff Goldblum. He appeared today on The View to talk about his new movie, Adam Resurrected, and his new role as Detective Zach Nichols on LOCI. Here's the interview posted by lester94111.

Adam Resurrected sounds like really heavy project. He said it took him a year to prepare for this role. It's playing in L.A. and New York but that's it I think. No other sightings or mentions. When checking IMDb it says 2009 as the release date so I'm thinking it's just in limited release now and wider release in the new year.

Speaking of which, I guess it means no Zach Nichols until March. That is kind of a bummer because it's an even longer delay than I originally thought but not as bad as the May date that was being mentioned earlier. I'm still pissed at USA for that. They better start promoting the hell out of it to make up for their stupidity. And you'd think they could fix their website? How about we get a few more promo pics of Zach Nichols in the character gallery, updated photos of all the other detectives, maybe a preview of the premiere episode, interviews with the new writers, with all the actors. A lot to ask for you say? Considering the way they royally fucked everything up you would think they would want to kiss our collective asses to make it up to us.

Fans of the show have put up with years of having our show treated like the unwanted stepchild of the L&O universe and we don't need the new foster parent to start treating it like crap, too.

Onto more pleasant news. For those who couldn't access Lozzie's Livejournal, here's a post by Lozzie about the award for Vincent and about his upcoming visit to Utah at Team 13 Projects.

In the meantime, I'll keep an eye open for Adam Resurrected in theaters and will have to rely on Life on Mars' return at the end of January to keep me going until March.

Just a quick note...

....to say I found a fun toy and added it to the bottom of the page. Everyone should get one. They're fun! Found it at Gorengal's Livejournal. It's also cheaper than real gifts. LOL You can give as many gifts as you want and it costs nothing. So put one up on your blog/journal and see what you'll get. I have to figure out a way to customize it so I can get Vincent D'Onofrio as a present. And of course maybe R.E.M., too!

Ah well, better actually get back to work. It's an office day for me. *sigh*

Fandom News

Maybe it's the lack of new episodes and our relentless need to get our fix of Law & Order: Criminal Intent but things are happening in the fandom this week. Or hell, even just today! LOL

First, Lozziecap is my hero. Here is why. She's got it all set up to have Vincent D'Onofrio get an award from his fans because we just love him and feel he's gone largely unrecognized for his incredible body of work. It's like a thank you for being a superb actor and apparently from what we've heard, an all around decent human being who appreciates his fans. You can follow up on all this at Team 13 Projects as I believe that's where the idea first came to life.

And then, came across the following at All Things Law & Order. It's the same audio of Jeff Goldblum talking about his character, Zach Nichols but she put some photos to gaze at while listening. She is most thoughtful and runs several great sites. :-)

And of course I have been looking for new fan fiction that doesn't suck. Not an easy thing to do sometimes but while many of my favorite authors haven't been writing, some are. Just found this one earlier today by Scribere Est Agere and it's perfection. It's part of her red threads series. And in case you don't know already, she writes B/A ship. Even if you're not a shipper, you should read her stories.

For videos, here's one from a few days ago. It was made by quietfireca and the video is called Somewhere based on Blindspot. The band is Within Temptation. I really like the band, too. Their categorized as "Gothic Rock," whatever the hell that means. She doesn't allow embedding so I'm just linking it. There are a lot of others but I find this one is my favorite of the moment becase the music makes me want to watch it over and over. Again, B/A shippish so those who are allergic to it should avoid.

For those who don't like shippy anything, here's one from MidnightAngel50 who made a video of his four favorite 'shakedowns' on LOCI season 7. The scenes are from Depths, Offense, Smile and Senseless. The song is Shakedown by Bob Seger.

I wish the inhaler scene was left in for Smile. *sigh*

Now if only USA would put the show on sooner rather than later...

Here's A Quickie

Law & Order: Criminal Intent Season 8 Cast Jeff Goldblum, Julianne Nicholson, Eric Bogosian, Kathryn Erbe & Vincent D'Onofrio

During my rounds of blogs and forums I came across more information about Detective Zach Nichols at Jeff Goldblum - Law & Order: Criminal Intent weblog. It's an audio link to an interview with Jeff about his new role as Detective Zach Nichols on LOCI.

So it sounds like he will be utilizing his talents as a musician as well from the interview. Zach Nichols plays jazz piano like his real life counterpart. I love a man of many talents. Sounds like classic Goldblum. I know a lot of Vincent D'Onofrio fans are concerned they're going to try and make Nichols too much like Goren. I don't think that's going to be a problem from his description of the character. Sounds like he's got his own brand of quirky and that's just fine with me. The very definition of the word would indicate you could have two 'quirky' people and they would still be different.

With every little tidbit of information I am just that much more anxious to see new episodes of LOCI. Don't even get me started on the tidbit we got about Goren at a 'family dinner' and an invitation from a little girl named Molly to join them for more. Family? Goren's cousins? He did mention an uncle in Vanishing Act. Others wonder if he's got a girlfriend - something I seriously doubt from his condition last time we saw him, depressed to the point I wouldn't be surprised if he were suicidal. And of course there's always the possibility he's joining Eames at her family gathering.

So off I go to see if I can come up with a fan fic based on those thoughts. Yes, I'm that desperate for a new episode.

Kathryn Erbe Nominated!

Kathryn Erbe as Detective Alex Eames

Just checked my Google Alerts and came across some Kathryn Erbe news. She's been nominated for a 2008 Satellite Award for Actress in a Drama Series. It's about flippin' time somebody recognized her! It's better than the Emmy's because the competition is actually good. Not just based on popularity. And because of this no sign of Mariska Hargitay - thank God.

Here's the list of nominees:
Actress in a Series, Drama

ANNA PAQUIN True Blood (HBO)
HOLLY HUNTER Saving Grace (TNT / Fox Televsion)
GLENN CLOSE Damages (FX)
KATHRYN ERBE LAW & ORDER: CRIMINAL INTENT (NBC / USA)
KYRA SEDGWICK The Closer (TNT)
SALLY FIELD Brothers & Sisters (ABC)

Good luck to Kathryn! In my mind she wipes the floor with all the rest of the competition anyway.

The downside, no nomination in sight for Vincent D'Onofrio. WTF? It's just so frustrating to watch lesser talents get acknowledged while he goes unnoticed. Not that any of the actors on the list are not great actors. At least this list appears to be more talent based than popularity based.

Speaking of talent, Harvey Keitel got a nomination for Actor in a supporting role in a series for his portrayl of Gene Hunt in Life on Mars. So there is some more good news. I hope he wins as well.

And of course it seems In Treatment has been nominated in the Drama category along with Life on Mars and Dexter. Of course you all know I'm in love with Life on Mars and I am quite intrigued with Dexter. I think I will have to put it in my Netflix Que and watch it. I don't get HBO as I rarely watch movies any more either and when I do, HBO shows ones I've already seen or I don't care to see and the repetition can be annoying. They do put out great television series, though.

Oh and while Vincent D'Onofrio didn't get nominated, Michael C. Hall of Dexter and formerly of Six Feet Under, another show I absolutely love, was nominated in the Actor in a Drama Series category. Also nominated was Gabriel Byrne for In Treatment and David Tennant for Doctor Who, a show I haven't seen yet but am told is most excellent as well. So much to watch, so little time!

And really, all I want more than anything is for USA to get off their incompetent ass and put Law & Order: Criminal Intent back on the air sooner rather than later. Have I mentioned recently how much I hate them for treating the show so shabbily? Yeah, I know, at least a couple of times a week.

The awards will be presented on December 14. A complete list can be found here.

Here's hoping Ms. Erbe will win. It could be just the thing she needs to get more recognition from other groups. I'm so sick of Mariska Hargitay being nominated for her role on SVU all the time. She may be a great actress but that character is so unappealing and so over the top it's not like it takes any finesse to do.

Erbe has a harder job of portraying Eames. Except for her one outburst of anger at Goren in Purgatory, Eames has to convey a whole range of emotions with just a slight change in expression and body language. She does it very well. It helps that she and Vincent D'Onofrio seem to work well off of each other. Both are masters at expressing themselves with just a look. I love Goren and Eames' unspoken conversations.

Well, off to catch up on blogs and forums. It's snowing still but nothing like they said it would be. I rescheduled my appointment anyway. Maybe I'll take half a day off instead of a full one. I hate wasting a whole day off just to go to the doctor.

[Still watching the news - I'm off work today so I'm just goofing off like crazy!]

Time for the Cat

Another Monday, another Curious as a Cat.

Week Number 146

1) What is the most unbelievable thing you have ever witnessed?

This isn't as unbelievable as it was weird. I don't know if that qualifies as unbelievable or not.

One day when we were living in a smaller town here in the county, my stepson and I were driving home from Battle Creek. He was attending KCC and I was working there. We were headed home driving through the downtown area because I wanted to stop to pick up something at the market. We noticed there was an accident. A car was stopped and was sitting half on the sidewalk by a streetlight post, with the headlight pressed against it. But it looked like it had been hit on the driver's side front headlight while the side touching the light post was fine. We looked at it and wondered what the hell happened? There was no other car around so it must have been a hit and run but the position of the car on the sidewalk in relation to the light post was just odd.

The police hadn't arrived yet so some good Samaritan pedestrians were helping out. One guy was directing traffic and he had no arms - just stumps. Other people (who had arms) were standing in the middle of the street just talking. As we drove by my stepson started humming the Twilight Zone theme and I launched into a narrative: This is Marsha B. and her stepson, Jimmy, driving home through their home town...or so they think. They have just entered the Twilight Zone.

So we both laughed and kept driving. It was just plain weird. Welcome to our surreal life. LOL

2) If you could change your identity completely (money no object), what would the new you be like?

Hmm....I can't think of anyone else I'd rather be. Well, maybe Kathryn Erbe because she's so cute and apparently well grounded for being an actor. And of course she gets to work with Vincent D'Onofrio everyday. Yeah, now that's a great perk!

3) What would you do if you saw someone making fun of another person?

Probably - depending on the situation - say something that makes fun of the people teasing the other person and ask how they like it when someone says mean things about them. I've actually done that before.

4) If you could go back to the Garden of Eden and talk to Adam and Eve for five minutes, what would you say?

Thanks for eating the apple or I wouldn't be here and neither would the rest of the world.

Hey, I'm just saying. LOL

5) Show and Tell. What comes to mind first when you see this picture? Or, tell a story if it reminds you of one.

The site of a new age wedding ceremony? That's what it looks like to me anyway. It does seem ceremonial in some way.
