Some Ross and Eames Appreciation

In my travels on the web today I made my usual stops and found BobbyG has put up her slide show of Ross and Eames caps from Frame. She's working on a Bobby one, too. So for fellow Eric Bogosian and Kathryn Erbe fans, here's one place you can find some nice caps that include the other talented members of the LOCI cast. I adore Vincent D'Onofrio but there are caps everywhere that focus on Goren. Check out her blog. She's got great caps for everyone. :-)

My favorite Ross moment - his stare down with Goren.

My favorite Eames moment - assuring Bobby she would make sure Frank's murder wasn't just swept under the rug.

TGIF - It's Lotus Day!

Friday was busy and somewhat annoying. We have these special sections we sell ads for every three or four months. This time it's the school sports section since school is starting next week. There's a woman who sells ads for those specifically. Her name is Betty. She is older than God. She will tell you that herself. She comes in and makes calls and sells ads for these things and she really is nice. But she likes to talk and talk and talk and sometimes she gets teary about things and cries. She also likes to hug people. She hugs me all the time. She likes me because I know how to do everything and I'm always laughing and happy. That's what she says anyway. Other people think she likes me because I help her figure out the new copier, fax machine and printer all the time. She needs a refresher every time she comes in for a week or two to sell those ads.

Now, I do like Betty. She's kind of feisty and she means well. But it's getting to a point where I have to try and avoid her so she won't hug me. She wears tons of perfume and when she hugs me, some of it stays with me. I don't wear perfume at all because it tends to give me a headache if it follows me around all day.

So yesterday was a comic effort on my part to avoid hugs. Being Japanese, I don't generally like hugs from people anyway. I mean I do hug my friends and of course my husband and granddaughters get hugs like I'm making up for being Japanese. LOL But people I am 'acquainted' with don't count as people I would like to hug.

So here I was moving from one computer station to another. Literally. It may have been amusing for my co-workers to watch me jump up and run from the front office to the newsroom to the composing area out back to the bathroom to accounting but I successfully avoided the hugs and the story about her daughter's - who is fine now and about age 60 and healthy - childhood illness that always brings her to tears. One of the new sales reps and a reporter had to endure that.

However, the pay off at the end of the day was I got to go have dinner with my three granddaughters. Then I got to drop the eight year old and the three year old off with their other grandma and brought Lotus, the four year old, home for a sleep over. She reminds me so much of her dad. She falls asleep in the car and sleeps hard all the way home. She eats all kinds of food without complaint. She sleeps through Leaper knocking stuff down in the den at night. And she even looks like her dad when he was her age.

She starts school this year and she's so excited. She told me all about her new school clothes and her new school backpack and supplies. It's nice to see her so happy about going to school. Lilly already is getting tired of school. Ah to be four again when everything was new and exciting.

Got another photo from my daughter-in-law of Lotus painting. All three girls were at this photo shoot - same one where they're all wearing the red dresses - but I thought this one was especially adorable as with this profile, Lotus looks exactly like her dad when he was a kid.

Next time is Lula's turn. She's the sweet one who loves giving hugs and kisses. Now those I look forward to. :-)

Some Cute Photos

First my Leaper. We got a package in the mail today and there was tons of peanuts in it. He loves crawling into boxes and managed to dive into this one with gusto. For the first time ever, he actually stayed put long enough for me to take two pictures.

He stayed in the box and let me take his picture

Now he's plotting his escape

And then, my stepson's mom sent us photos of her mom - see post about Yaemi here if you haven't already read it- and herself going parasailing. That was how her mom wanted to spend her birthday. : -)

And she sent photos of the tattoos they both got on their ankles. They got their names tatooed in Japanese. I think it's adorable. LOL

Getting Ready For School

My daughter-in-law sent this to me, my husband and stepson yesterday. The girls are getting ready for school. Well, Lilly (on the right) and Lotus (on the left). Lula (the middle one staring at the floor) is only three and has one more year to go.

Lotus is especially excited as this is going to be her first year in school. Lilly says she's been asking her almost everyday when is school going to start? Amazing how quickly they grow. I just know by what will seem like next week, Lilly will be graduating high school.

Another Reason Kathryn Erbe Rocks!

Besides being a wonderful actress and a non-pretentious individual, Kathryn Erbe is supporting a great cause. The more I learn about her, the more I like her. She's the spokesperson for Mutt-i-grees.

Here's an article with more details. And here's a video with Kathryn speaking on behalf of the organization.

No Way, No How, No McCain

Hillary Clinton at the convention with fellow
New York Senator Chuck Schumer

President Bill Clinton addressing the DNC

Nice catch phrase from Hillary Clinton . Sometimes being made to watch something is a good thing. I've been just watching the whole thing. Bubba did good, btw. He still has that old Clinton charm. So hopefully things are off to a good start. It's a long road ahead. No doubt the Rove folks who are now working on McCain's campaign will continue to repeat their stupid lies because they've learned from the last nasty campaign they ran in 2004, that it works.

John Kerry had a great speech tonight. Loved how he called McCain on 'flip flopping' without actually saying the words. It's stupid sounding isn't it? Guess they had to keep it simple for Dumba...ah Dubya.

I think Clinton did what he had to. I know he could do better but he's probably still feeling somewhat whiny over Hillary's defeat.

So far it's been a great rah, rah fest for the Democrats. I do like watching the Democratic National Convention. They have much better music. Seriously. And of course they don't make me froth at the mouth in anger yelling "You Asshole!" at the television screen. It's bad enough every time I see Karl Rove doing commentary on FIX television, I really want to punch him in the face. He's such a loathsome little man.

Ah well, let's not part on such a disgusting note. Here's that JibJab video that lampoons the current presidential campaign. My favorite? Hillary smacking Bill over the head with the frying pan.

Humorous Frame Caps

Yes, I'm still obsessing. Hey, I'm watching the damn Democratic National Convention but sheesh, I have to take a break sometime. Besides, Bubba is going to speak tonight and I'll need to rest up for that. Ten minutes, he says. Hmm....really? Is he making up for boring people to death in 1988? Ah well, I'm just glad this isn't 1988 because I would have been asleep half way through his speech. I should have taken last night to recap instead. Hillary did a great job. She did a good one today, too. Gotta give her props for being a good Democrat and standing by her party. Let's hope Bubba does that tonight.

Anyway, off to my obsession. Found some great caps by Jesshelga at Livejournal. She's got a great sense of humor and she's a shipper so it's perfect for me. Lots of both Goren and Eames and some very funny commentary to along with them. :-)

How Did This Happen?

Stole this idea from Goddessdster's blog. Apparently I'm a romantic comedy? Yikes! Have I mentioned I'm not that fond of romantic comedies? LOL

Oh well, I did like Lost In Translation. And I suppose my life could be considered a romantic comedy. I know if it were a television show my life would resemble a sitcom more than any kind of drama. LOL

Frame - Video

The Democratic National Convention is on. I wish I were more excited about it but I just want the election to be over with. I recapped last night for the paper and just so I can get out of watching any of the Republican National Convention, I am going to recap tomorrow night, too. So tonight I'm just surfing the net and am trying to avoid watching the talking heads tell me what to think about what happened.

In the process, I found a great Criminal Intent video by lostinbelgium. It's a recap of Frame. The song is my favorite Evanescence song called Bring Me To Life. Sums it up nicely.

There's Always a Downside

Got this in my email yesterday - RAIN: Radio and Internet Newsletter. It seems Senator Joe Biden does have a downside to him. Well, as far as I'm concerned anyway. I'm not pleased at the way he supports the RIAA which essentially wants to shut down internet radio. If they get their way they will bankrupt many small online radio stations with their attempt to squeeze every last dime from them. They're not looking at the big picture and they will, in the end, shoot themselves in the foot.

It saddens me that in this brave new world, it seems even someone like Jesse Helms was more progressive about internet radio than someone like Joe Biden.

Here's the portion of the newsletter that addresses this issue:

OBAMA’S VP BIDEN HAS PRO-RIAA RECORD: Presumptive Democratic Presidential candidate Barack Obama has selected Senator Joe Biden (D-DE) as his running mate — an ally of the RIAA and co-sponsor of the PERFORM Act. The PERFORM Act, primarily sponsored by Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA), would assign royalty rates according to an arbitrator-decided “fair market value” and not a standard of fairness or public good. It was discussed in a Senate Judiciary Hearing back in July (RAIN coverage here and here). CNet points out that Biden’s stance may be at odds with Obama’s declaration to, “’Update and reform our copyright and patent systems to promote civic discourse, innovation and investment while ensuring that intellectual property owners are fairly treated.’ These are code words for taking a more pro-EFF (Electronic Frontier Foundation) than pro-MPAA approach. Unfortunately, Biden has steadfastly refused to answer questions on the topic.” Additionally, Biden is a staunch enemy of peer-to-peer networks, signing a letter that urged the Justice Department to prosecute peer-to-peer users and proposing a $1 billion program to monitor peer-to-peer networks this year. Finally, he introduced a bill in 2002 “that would have make it a federal felony to trick certain types of devices into playing unauthorized music or executing unapproved computer programs,” which was defeated by efforts from Verizon, Microsoft, Apple, eBay and Yahoo.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not upset enough to not vote for the Democratic ticket this year. But it is a disappointment.

Another Great Video

Here's one by one of my favorite LOCI fan fic writers who happens to make videos as well. WARNING! It's shippy so my anti-shipping friends can avoid it and not hate me. LOL It's quite good and is made by jesshelga - the fic writer I was crowing about a while back. The song is by Michael Penn (brother of Sean, husband of Aimee Mann) and it's called "Don't Let Me Go." My shipper friends, you're in for a treat!

Frame - Follow Up The Morning After

After sleeping on it and watching it two more times, I still say this was a most excellent episode. Can't wait to hear the 'intellectually superior' to chime in on how the flashbacks are insulting to the LOCI viewer because no one new watches, after all, right? Sorry, still having some annoyed feelings about some people who seem to have some intellectual insecurity.

This wraps up some major story lines for Goren. The witch is indeed dead and while it would have been nice to have Bobby take her out, I think it's appropriate that the two most poisonous influences in his life sort of helped to cancel each other out.

A few more observations:

1. In the exchange between Goren and Eames after his meltdown in the morgue with Rodgers, Goren is clearly still upset at Eames. She explains she's been investigating him not because she thinks he's guilty but because she's trying to clear him. He addresses her as 'Detective' just as she did in Purgatory as she walks out after reading him the riot act. But Eames doesn't stand there resigned to let him be angry. She continues and explains to him she thinks he's being 'gaslighted.' He stops, takes stock and realizes, she's right and she is on his side.

2. When Goren goes to pick up Declan at the hospital, Declan tells him he's being set up. He warns him that he is being investigated just like Declan himself was with Jo's case. He swats him with his hat. Quite reminiscent of how Frances Goren lashed out briefly at him last year in Endgame when he was pressing her about Brady. Yet another feeble, aging parental figure who claims to care about him but really is just a self-centered individual. Perhaps they think they care about him but really, it seems it's always about them in the end.

3. Goren and Eames seem to have healed that rift between them. Eames telling Declan she does have anger and resentment but not towards her partner. Goren refuses to hear Declan's negative comments towards Eames.

4. Declan Gage is a misogynist. He neglected his child not just because he's self-centered and narcissistic but because she was a girl. He cared more about Bobby than Jo because Bobby was the son he probably always wanted but ended up with Jo. He has very unflattering things to say about all the women in Bobby's life. I can see Frances and Nicole but when he turned on Eames, too, I felt he was definitely showing his misogynistic side.

5. Goren accused Eames of believing he was capable of murder. That wounded look on her face once again had me wanting to strangle Goren. However, under the circumstances, I understood his outburst. Even the one in the morgue with Rodgers. This is one side of Goren I would like to see go away next season. Violent outbursts are really a pet peeve of mine and while I understand why the character does it, I am really getting tired of it.

6. Kathyrn Erbe is incredible. Her best moments came during her moments of silence. The look she gave Goren as he asked her if she thought he was capable of murdering his own brother spoke volumes. Same for the way she watched him as they discovered the heart in that box. I hope they explore her personal life a little more next season as they did in Amends. We learned more about Eames in Amends than we had the entire six seasons prior to it. In that same vein I'd love to learn more about Ross.

Again, it was a superb episode and a great high note for the departing writers to leave on. Here are a few photos put up at USA. Will go in search of others when I have more time. Am so happy it lived up to my expectations. May the healing of Robert Goren begin.

Frame - Immediate Impressions

All I can say is WOW! A most superb season finale. Warren Leight and company delivered. What a great episode to go out on. They set the bar very high for next season. Here's hoping they will do as well with this now character driven drama as the current crew has done.

For those who haven't seen this episode yet, WARNING! SPOILER! Yes, I tell you who dun-it.

Vincent D'Onofrio & John Glover
as Detective Goren and his mentor Dr. Declan Gage

This one certainly lived up to all the hype. It kept me on the edge of my seat and was nicely put together. No doubt those who yearn for a show that stayed to the strict procedural will not like it but I don't care. If you want strict procedural watch seasons 1-4 on DVD. Leave the emotional stuff to those of us who appreciate it.

Here are my first impressions from Major Case. I have no doubt I will want to revisit this once again. It was full of everything with underlying themes from several seasons.

Wow, what a finale. I'm still trying to digest it all but I have to say my first impression is it certainly delivered!

And I'm so happy! I want to sing 'ding dong, the witch is dead!' Nicole Wallace taken down by Declan Gage?!?!? Ha! In his warped mind, he actually thought he was helping Bobby. Well, killing Nicole was the only good thing he did for Goren, IMO.

So we have Goren and Eames closing out a case and Eames sends Bobby on his way, so he can visit his mother's grave on her birthday. Wasn't her birthday in winter last year, though? Ah well, never mind, that thought didn't enter my mind until just now so I bought it at the time with no second thoughts.

Ah well, Nicole kills Frank, sends Bobby and Declan flowers. The flowers sent to Gwen Chapel in Arizona was sent by Declan pretending to be Nicole. Very good! Sends Goren and Eames on a 'scavenger hunt' to the B&B. In the honeymoon suite they find a package for Bobby from Donny. We're supposed to think the heart is Donny's. Even Goren thought the heart was Donny's.

But it was Nicole's! I was so happy to know that. Wasn't so happy when Ross started wondering if it was Bobby who did all of it. Poor Eames. She was practically in tears and she never doubted Bobby. Went to prove his innocence and got angry on his behalf.

Felt badly for Ross. He obviously cares about Goren but was starting to question what was going on with him. Once again you have Goren and Eames and Ross at odds with each other when Goren discovers he's being investigated.

I wanted to punch Declan when he had the nerve to accuse Eames of setting Bobby up! This woman was victimized by his daughter, the serial killer he was mostly responsible for creating, and he's playing head games with her? Self-centered jerk.

I was a bit freaked out at Bobby going off on ME Rodgers. But if he thought she was talking about personal and confidential things in his life to Ross, I can see how he'd be pissed.

So now we know Mark Ford Brady was really Goren's biological father. It shouldn't matter. But will it? Bobby certainly had his share of horrible father figures. The man he thought was his father was a neglectful loser. His older brother was a drug addicted, gambling user. Declan his mentor was a self-centered jerk who neglected his own child in favor of Bobby but that also left Bobby with tons of guilt in the end.

No wonder he has trouble with father figures.

The upside, Donny is not dead. He can still show up and perhaps be someone Bobby can help and have a good relationship with. I wanted to punch Frank for lying to Donny's mother about Bobby not wanting to help with Donny.

So many twists and turns and finally in the end, it certainly was ironic that Declan tells Bobby he's free. Declan in his insanity thought he was saving Bobby. He was a miserable man.

I hope for all the Eames haters who wanted her to be a doormat for Goren will finally give her credit for everything she did for him in this episode. Despite all the hurt he's caused her she was still there defending him.

In the end, Goren is probably better off without Nicole and Declan but Frank really tugged at my heartstrings. He was a loser and all but he was family. Despite the last confrontation he had with him, Bobby still obviously was worried about and cared for his brother.

Ross might catch some flack from people but honestly, he wanted to help Bobby. He even let Eames do more research - something she wouldn't have been allowed to do had the brass heard about it - before he went upstairs to the brass. By doing that Ross was taking a risk. Sure we all know Bobby isn't capable of doing something like that but Ross has all kinds of other considerations.

I'd say the writers did a great job with this and it was a terrific way to go out. Congratulations and good luck to Warren Leight and company. You certainly set the bar high for the next group of writers.

So what lies ahead for Detectives Goren and Eames and Captain Ross? I think in the end when cooler heads prevail, Goren will understand what Ross did for him. It's not easy being Ross. He has to stand between his detectives and the brass. You can see he wants to help Goren but then starts to wonder if Goren hasn't snapped?

Thank goodness for Eames. Thank goodness Ross let her work the case. I loved her indignation at Ross' not telling her about checking out Goren's finances.

For those who miss Captain Deakins, I understand. He was very likable but Ross keeps things interesting. He does stand up for Goren. But again, like Eames, he's not a doormat. He has his own career and an entire department to worry about.

Great performances all around. John Glover played a Declan in decline most excellently. His whole demeanor changed from his last appearance.

I did think it was so tragic that Jo Gage would rather bite off her own tongue than talk to her father. All her life she just wanted his attention and now his only interest in her was that of her role as a serial killer. How very sad.

Also loved the best conflict of the season - the stare down between Ross and Goren. Despite being much smaller in stature, Eric Bogosian does such an excellent job at going toe to toe with Vincent D'Onofrio. He's the best addition to the show since Chris Noth. He fits in well with both teams and will no doubt do well with Jeff Goldblum next season.

I can't wait for season 8!

Andale Mono Sounds Like a Disease!

In an attempt to avoid spoilers, I've been editing fan fiction, watching the Criminal Intent marathon on USA, emailing - not about spoilers but maybe a little speculation, and listening to music. Decided to go to Blogthings for a while can came up with this:

You Are Andale Mono

You are a geek, pure and simple. You spend a lot of time online.

In fact, you probably love the internet more than anyone you know.

You are picky about design, mostly for readability's sake.

You are the type most likely to be irritated by a bad font.

What Font Are You?

Doesn't it sound like a disease? LOL

[NP: Little Feat - Fat Man in the Bathtub]

Well, Duh

So some people were upset at the posting of the 2 Minute Replay on USA. I can see that. It's not something I would want to see because I don't want to know who did what for sure until the end. Yes, I speculate a lot but that's the fun of it. However, when it is labeled 2 Minute Replay and when they say "Last time on Law & Order: Criminal Intent" doesn't that clue you in that it may not be a good idea to continue watching if you don't want to know what's going to happen? I did watch two scenes into it and then closed the screen. Self censoring, people. Try it sometime. It's actually a good thing to do.

Seems some folks are really upset at it being posted like it was on the USA site. I can see the show producers and writers being really upset, but if you watched it, don't scream at USA or people who posted it on their blogs or on forums. It was obviously a HUGE mistake on the part of some poor soul at USA. And for most of us who posted it on our blogs, we did warn people. If you cannot self-censor it's your own problem so stop bitching.

See, that's the reason I don't want to allow comments here because of the inevitable fighting amongst posters I want to avoid on my blog. You can bitch at me in private and others need not get involved. Saw some disturbance on The Reel in the comments section and have decided to not read comments there anymore. I do have a bias for the posters on the positive side of the issue. Naysaying is one thing but when it's repetitive it tends to start hysteria. However, that still doesn't make me want to see the ensuing fray.

And because I have friends on both sides of the political aisle, I don't want them fighting with each other here. We have forums for that sort of thing, you know? I get along with most reasonable people who are open minded and can give me facts along with reasonable and thoughtful arguments. Unfortunately some of you can't stand each other and I just know it's going to be just a mess if I allow comments here. If you can't play nice, don't play in my sandbox. LOL

And finally, I have to share this one letter I got through my work email about my op-ed.

You obviously have a left-wing agenda and are abusing your First Amendment rights by attacking Senator John McCain's character. He is a Vietnam war veteran. He suffered for this country and shouldn't be called a liar by someone who was probably not even born during the Vietnam war era!

First of all, what I did say was that John McCain has gone back on his word in regards to running a clean campaign and not resort to negative campaigning and referred to the long list of negative campaign ads put out by McCain basically just name calling and questioning Obama's patriotism.
True I suppose I was calling him a liar without actually saying the words but what do you call someone who doesn't do what he said he would do?

Second, does this person actually intend to say I can't criticize John McCain because he's a Vietnam war veteran? I wonder how they felt about the Swift Boat Veterans for Revenge attack on John Kerry - which incidentally turned out to be lies - back in the 2004 campaign?

Third, I was born in 1959. I may have been just a child during most of the Vietnam war but my father spent a year in Vietnam voluntarily as a civilian employee of the Department of Defense. I was quite aware there was a war, thank you. Whether or not I was alive during this conflict, I should have the right to question John McCain the 'candidate for president' on any discrepancies in his statements if he contradicts himself. I honor his service to this country. That doesn't mean anyone should let him get away with at the very least breaking a promise and not call him on it.

Last but not least, telling me I have a left-wing agenda isn't an insult to me. If they told me I had a right-wing agenda I might have a problem with that. I have a left-wing agenda? Well, duh. Compared to the far right-wing agenda many people around here have, William F. Buckley would appear to have a left-wing agenda.

While I've Been Obsessing

...on Criminal Intent, the rest of the nation seems to have been caught up in who Obama's running mate would be. No surprise here. Biden was the best and safest choice in the bunch. Now maybe he can go after McCain and tell him how full of crap he is and how he's a HUGE flip flopper, he's senile and he's a sell out. Okay, so he won't say that exactly but he can imply it, right? Obama has been way too nice in this dirty campaign season. He's got to remember he's up against the man - or beast if you prefer - named Karl Rove who made John McCain, a Vietnam war veteran who was touted as a war hero, look less patriotic and worthy than a thrice failed businessman, former alcoholic, draft evading, trust fund baby who couldn't find Iraq on a map before we invaded it back in 2000.

I'm glad I didn't bother signing up to be one of those who received text messages about Obama's choice as I heard they went out at 3 a.m. or something and quite frankly, I would have been pissed if I was awakened at 3 p.m. for that. While it is an important matter, I already predicted it would be Biden and I could have waited until I woke up at a decent hour to figure it out.

So I've had my fill of politics for the day and since I'm trying to avoid learning any more about tomorrow night's Criminal Intent season finale, I thought I'd put together the following very short slideshow from Stir of Echoes with Kathryn Erbe and Kevin Bacon. It's my favorite Kathryn Erbe movie. She seems to always play the strong, well grounded woman trying to hold herself and her man together. Kevin Bacon co-stars and is also quite wonderful in this.

The photos used for this slideshow were found at strangevisitor.org.

I found my self-control....

...one scene into the ultimate spoiler. BIG TIME SPOILER WARNING! AND I MEAN HUGE!

Goren & Eames in Frame

So I found myself at Major Case today, looking for more discussion on my favorite obsession. I came across this apparently HUGE FAUX PAS on the part of someone at USA. It's the 2 Minute Replay they post AFTER the show is aired. Usually the day after it's aired. But they put it up today, apparently. It may be gone by the time anyone reads this so apologies if the link doesn't take you there.

Personally, despite my voracious need for spoilers and my usual complete lack of self-control when it comes to reading about anything concerning this show and this particular episode, I found myself stopping after I discovered who the dead body is.

I'm also done speculating until I see this tomorrow as I really don't think I can handle knowing much more without my heart giving out or something. It's going to be something folks.

Again, I have to say I will either love it or hate it. Right now I'm falling more into the I love it category because I honestly can't figure out what the heck is going on even with all the spoilers.
Then again I haven't watched the entire 2 Minute Replay either.

Oh and to my political friends who tell me I should post my email thoughts here, I will consider it. But don't even think I'm going to be capable of rational thought on anything until after the season finale of Criminal Intent is aired.

My Last Resort

Well, having been completely taken over with thinking of the upcoming season finale of Law & Order: Criminal Intent, I am finally going to bed having watched and read everything I could find about it over and over again and having discussed it with anyone else crazy enough to be concerned about it.

To my music and political friends, no this isn't going to be a strictly Criminal Intent board. Honest. I know it seems that way because I'm just so obsessed right now but this too shall pass. Remember that ADD thing? Just bear with me until Monday. Once this show goes into hiatus, I'll be back to the more mundane details of my life, political rantings and more music oriented posts.

However, I'm still obsessed so I leave you with this video I found earlier on YouTube by duchesscloverly, also known as Jenn Cho who makes those wonderful videos. This one is called Last Resort and is something she made in 2005. Great video of Bobby Goren being his aggressive Bobby Goren self dealing with problem perps. Not a shipper vid, folks, though she does make some really good vids like that, too.

This one is loud. It's Poppa Roach and if you don't like swearing and/or very loud music, you may want to turn down the sound and just watch Bobby in action. But if you like Poppa Roach and or music like that, the song really does enhance and match the action very well.

This is exactly how I feel right now having spent hours over thinking this one.

Good night!

Goren and Eames + honeymoon suite + heart in a box = ....

...A HUGE HEART ATTACK FOR MARSHA.

Found more pieces to the puzzle. Posted on USA site - so damn no embedding and I do want this for posterity - and heads up given to me by Magra9, a wonderfully informed friend.

So here's the preview. Watch at your own risk.

I am truly stressed. Will post my thoughts later. I have to calm down before I explode.

I'm Never Going To Get Any Work Done

I'm three quarters of the way done with my op-ed - due at 6 p.m. today, extended by my editor who is going to kill me if it's not there - and yet, here I am, blogging. And of course it's about the one thing that has apparently taken over my life the last week. LOL More spoilers from the upcoming season finale of Criminal Intent.

DON'T READ IF YOU DON'T WANT TO KNOW!

This time they came in my Google Alerts. All it does is add to my confusion and makes me question more. So here's the full article and the following is the important part. Read at your own risk. Sometimes a little knowledge is a dangerous thing.

"CI" is gut-wrenchingly serious, especially in special episodes, such as Sunday's season finale at 9 p.m. Two words: Nicole Wallace. She's the slippery nemesis of emotionally tortured detective Robert Goren, played brilliantly by Vincent D'Onofrio. You know how much we enjoy the work of D'Onofrio, whom we refer to (reverentially) as "creepy guy." Goren's tilted-head interrogations are the stuff of TV legend, and yet Goren is never really in enough control of anything Sunday to handle a good intellectual beat-down. What's wrong with Goren? Well, he's got a stubble beard and he's gained weight. But specifically: Nicole Wallace, played by Olivia D'Abo, seems to be wreaking new havoc; Bobby's junkie-gambler brother may reopen the wound of losing their wacky mother recently; Bobby's partner (Kathryn Erbe) has to investigate him for a murder; and Bobby keeps learning troubling things about his past, which was so unstable that it resembles Kelsey Grammer's. John Glover guest stars as Bobby's overtly odd friend Declan Gage. Events will tug at the hearts of Bobby-philes. That's pronounced "Bawbee" if you're crazy-evil Nicole Wallace. She sends him flowers at one point and declines a signature on the card, saying, "Bawbee will know who it's from." Ooh, that's not good. The season finale doesn't pack the same satisfying punch as the season opener, because it punches below the belt at times. It ends with an ironic and haunting statement, "You're free now. Bobby, you're free!"

So is Bobby free because skanky-ho Nicole Wallace is dead? Please, please, please make it so!

All right back to work now. Just need to watch a couple of John McCain negative campaign ads and I'll be fired up to finish this puppy in 30 minutes. ;)

There Goes My Hero

Another tribute to Logan by Magra9 on YouTube. I'm glad there's some appreciation for Logan here. It always saddened me that there wasn't more appreciation for Noth. At best it seemed the Goren fans 'tolerated' him. I have to admit his first LOCI season - season 5 - wasn't stellar. But season 6 got better and season 7 was most excellent. Some of the best LOCI episodes were Logan episodes from season 7.

And again I remind those who would trash talk my Mikey, if it weren't for Noth/Logan you wouldn't have had the last three seasons of Bobby Goren either. So with that in mind, here's Magra9's video - entitled Hero. Song is by the Foo Fighters (another of my favorite bands because Dave Grohl rocks!).

My Head Is Going To Explode

And yet another spoiler for Sunday's LOCI episode Frame.

Vincent D'Onofrio and John Glover
as Detective Robert Goren and his mentor, Dr. Declan Gage

Here's the link to the full article but really, the only interesting part is the following:

"Law & Order: Criminal Intent" (9 p.m., USA Network). In the season finale, Detective Goren has to find out how his brother is connected to a murder.

I don't know what I'm going to do now. My mind is so freaked out by all the revelations of the return of the skanky-ho, Nicole Wallace, and all the familiar faces showing up in this one, I half expect the ghost of Frances Goren to show up at some point. I know this is going to be one of those episodes I will either love completely like I did Blindspot and Endgame, or totally hate like I did Untethered and Purgatory.

There are so many good news, bad news scenarios I can't keep up. Here are just a few that pop into my mind:

Good news, John Glover reprises his role as Delcan Gage. Bad news, Olivia D'Abo reprises her role as Nicole Wallce? The jury is still out on exactly how Nicole shows up in this one but she apparently does make her presence felt.

Good news, Tony Goldwyn will return as Frank Goren. Bad news, he may be either thrown in jail for murder or killed.

Good news, Goren and Eames are on the same side again. Bad news, they're both suspects in something bad.

I'm exhausted and I still can't stop thinking about it. Somehow, I have an op-ed to get out by 6 p.m. tomorrow. Do you think my editor would like an op-ed about the season finale of LOCI? I didn't think so either.

I'm off to at least try to get some work done. It was all I could do to finish my two stories today. But then that's not difficult because how hard is who, what, when, where, why and how? Not very.

Unraveling the mystery of the LOCI season finale? Almost impossible.

The Speculation Continues

No, not who Obama and McCain are going to choose for their running mates. This is much more important - to me anyway. McCain could choose Chuck Hagel (he has a better chance of getting on Obama's ticket than McCain's since McCain sold his soul to the devil - a.k.a Karl Rove) for all I care because it won't make a bit of difference in the end who I'm voting for.

So, I'm going to preoccupy my idle mind with thoughts of Criminal Intent. It's going to be a shocker according this this article I found at Major Case. WARNING!!! More spoilers there to add fuel to the fire in this article and in this post to follow so read at your own risk. No, I don't know what's going to happen for sure and it doesn't tell you but boy does it make me nervous.

Goren at his mother's grave in Frame

So Goren and Eames are both suspects so that tells me perhaps Nicole is dead. Or gets dead awfully fast? Please dear God let her be dead. Yes, if you haven't figured it out by now, I'm so tired of Nicole Wallace I'm imagining all kinds of ways she could be killed off in this series.

My new speculation. Nicole comes back and is trying to mess with Goren through Frank. Somehow she ends up dead. Maybe she's killed herself, maybe she's killed someone else but I don't think from what the article said that she kills anyone. I think she ends up a corpse. Maybe a head in the box that arrives half way through the episode? Dear God don't let it be Frank or Goren's nephew Donny or that will send poor Goren into another depression that may continue into November when season 8 continues.

The writers are cleaning up the slate before they leave so the next crew can create their own drama, I think. All those storylines tying together and being totally bizarre and captivating says it all. I'm thinking we've got another Endgame here as opposed to Untethered. I certainly hope so and it sounds like it will be great.

Off to see what others are saying about this!

Kindergarten Isn't What It Used To Be

Here's another of those little writing site contributions from a couple of years ago. Since school is about to start and my Lotus is starting pre-school this fall, I thought I'd dig this one out and post it here. This is from Lilly's first week of kindergarten a couple of years ago. My how time flies!

Kindergarten Isn't What It Used To Be - My First Day Of Kindergarten

My eldest granddaughter started kindergarten this week. She is six years old and has already been in pre-school and something called "Young Fives." She will walk into a classroom full of familiar faces. Nothing traumatic about that, which is a good thing.

I remember when my daughter-in-law told me she was going to be going to Young Fives before kindergarten because the year she was five and scheduled to start kindergarten, the family was going to Maui to visit family there for two weeks and she didn't want Lilly to be behind. Behind? How can you be behind in kindergarten?

Well, apparently these days kindergarten is more like first grade used to be when I went to school. My granddaughter will learn to read and write and do basic math in kindergarten. When I went to kindergarten I was finger painting, singing songs, listening to stories, playing with the other kids and doing other arts and craft things. There was no reading or writing or arithmetic yet. I learned some of that at home and I did learn to write my own first and last name so I could put it on everything that was mine. I loved kindergarten. It was fun. We took naps - now it's only half a day apparently so a sleeping bag is not needed. I remember taking my sleeping bag with my name in it and a little pillow for my head and after lunch we took a nap. I hated naps.

And what's the reason for all this? Is it because they have so much more to learn now that they have to start earlier? I mean it seems we're asking them to grow up a lot faster in general and this is just another example of it. Ten year olds know so much more about sex than I did when I entered high school for crying out loud!

So now I have my little granddaughter going to school and learning to do things in kindergarten that I learned in first grade. Of course she's the same age I was in first grade so maybe it's not as bad as I thought. Sometimes I think I worry too much and I'm sounding more and more like an old person. However, that being said kindergarten was apparently a lot more fun when I went to school.

I remember my first day when my mother took me to school. We walked into the classroom and met my teacher, Mrs. Thrumb. Funny how many teachers have been forgotten but she was the first teacher I had and she was just perfectly suited to be a kindergarten teacher. After speaking to her for a while, my mother was satisfied that this woman was someone she could leave me in the care of without having to worry. I had not attended pre-school so this would be the first time in my life my mother would be leaving me somewhere without another family member present. It was a rather stressful and frightening moment for me.

My mother walked me over to a table where some other children were sitting. I was painfully shy [anyone who knows me as an adult generally find this difficult to believe ;-)] and I just sat there looking around at the other children as my mother told me she would be just outside the door for a while and then she would be heading home. She reassured me that she would be back to pick me up in a few hours. Inside I wanted to scream "NO!!! DON'T LEAVE ME!!!" but as a good little Japanese girl, I just nodded and gave my mom a hug as she moved to the door. It would have been beyond embarrassing if I cried. There was no way. Even at age five I was already showing signs of being very Japanesey in that respect if not many others. Emotional outbursts in public are still a huge no-no for me.

It was all I could do to not cry. Then the little girl seated across from me came over and sat next to me. She smiled and told me her name and asked me mine. I was a little annoyed because now I had to actually speak and I was so afraid if I did I would start crying. But I knew my mother was watching me and I didn't want to cry. So I said quickly, "I'm Marsha." The little girl smiled at me and then proceeded to show me the story book she found on the shelf. I tried to concentrate on that and not at my mother standing in the door way. But there she was standing by the door. I could see her in my peripheral vision, watching me to make sure I wasn't going to have a melt down - like the boy who had just walked in with his mother.

As I pretended to look at the story book the little girl was showing me, I could see my mom standing in the door way and she was watching the little boy and his mother. He was starting to cry. His mother tried to console him and Mrs. Thrumb stood there smiling at him reassuringly. It wasn't working. Suddenly, the little boy started to scream and stamp his feet. The little girl who was showing me her book stopped and we both stood there staring at the little boy who fell to the floor and started flailing his arms and legs and screaming "NO!!!"

This pretty much got me distracted enough to forget that I was on the verge of crying. Everyone was now focused on the little boy in the middle of the room, having a tantrum because he didn't want his mother to leave him. Maybe it was because he was acting out exactly how I felt at the time or maybe it was just my instinctive desire to NOT be the one everyone was staring at that made me feel quite calm all of a sudden. As the little boy continued to scream and cry, my mother came over to me to make sure I was all right.

I nodded and said, "I'm okay, mommy. You can go home now if you like."

With a smile and a reassuring pat on my shoulder, my mother headed back to the doorway. She stayed until the little boy finally was calmed down by his mother assuring him she would be just at the door. Mrs.Thrumb told her and all the other mothers who were still there that it would be all right if they wanted to stay for the class period. It was only half a day anyway for the first day.

A few mothers did stay but most seemed to feel comfortable enough to leave. At some point my mother left but I don't remember when it was since I was now happily participating in my very first day of kindergarten which was mostly Mrs. Thrumb assigning us our tables we were to be seated at and showing us where everything was. There were toys to play with, other children to play with (being an only child that was really cool), arts and crafts to be done and cookies and milk. I do recall being nervous one more time as she went around the room and had everyone say their name. The rest of the class was a blur but I remember my mother showing up at noon along with the other moms.

I don't remember what happened with the little boy who had that horrible temper tantrum. I just remember holding my mother's hand as we headed home after my first day in kindergarten and looking forward to going back to school.

Thank You Chris Noth

I thought I'd put up a slide show of some of my favorite Logan/Noth photos I've found on the web over the past year. Most of the caps from LOCI are from Clip It and the mothership photos are from Yahoo Screen Caps. Also found a lot of nice photos just through Google and at cheray_smith's photostream at Flickr. It starts off with the many partners of Logan in chronological order and then becomes rather random.

Thank you Chris Noth for another great run as Mike Logan. Good luck with your future endeavors, personal and professional, and please consider making at least a guest appearance sometime in the L&O universe. You will be missed.

Philosopher - Do you have to be really smart for this?

Took another Blogthing quiz. So I'm a philosopher. Okay. I'm good with that. It's overall pretty accurate. Even the part where I know a lot. Unfortunately, most of the stuff I know is trivial, useless stuff. LOL

You Are the Philosopher

You love thinking things over and developing theories.

Learning is very important to you, and you pursue knowledge relentlessly.

You love to talk about the things you know, often in more detail than people would like to hear.

And you know a lot! You're always taking on new subjects, interests, and hobbies.

You are at your best when you are left alone to ponder your newest ideas and experiments.

You tend to withdraw from environments that are loud, contentious, or passionate.

What Role Do You Play?

More Last Rites

Yet another item for Last Rites. Magra9 made this one for me because she knows how devastated I was to hear that Logan was leaving us once again. So here is Last Rites, posted by Magra9 on YouTube. The song is Fields of Gold by Sting - I just happened to be listening to it this morning when I was making my second post for this episode. Either she read that entry or great minds think alike.

Frame - Promo

Thanks to ElizaJane at YouTube, here's the promo for Frame. TXCANY and USA seem to be slacking so we have to do these by ourselves I suppose. Thanks for sharing this Eliza!

So, is it Nicole? Who's dead? Is it Frank? What is Ross afraid to ask Goren? What makes Goren toss that table? DNA results? What?

All right, told you all I was going to be obsessed with this show all week. PLEASE POST PREVIEWS! You're killing us, USA!

[NP: Santana - Europa (live)]

Last Rites Photos and Follow-up

Finally got some photos from USA. Wish I knew someone who capped Logan episodes as quickly as people who cap Goren ones. Ah well, the point is moot now that he's gone. [HEY JEFF GOLDBLUM fans, please contact me at one of the boards I frequent to tell me if you are going to cap his episodes!]

Having slept on it and checked out what others thought, I finally have decided I am all right with the ending for Logan. My problem was I was expecting some grandiose departure like the one on the mothership. Punching out the ADA? Not quite but you know, along those lines.

However, this ending leaves it open for his possible return one day. Wolf is working on a new project so you never know. And of course there's always the mothership, CI and for me the dreaded SVU. I'd probably even make myself suffer through an episode of that if Logan popped up as a guest star.

It's nice to know Logan goes out doing what he does best - the right thing even if it means thumbing his nose at the system. He doesn't care about his own self-interests. He's glad the ADA is gunning for him now. It's like he's spoiling for a fight.

Poor Ross is seen stressed out at the idea that Logan has made himself a target and doesn't care. In fact is saying he welcomes it. Now he's got Goren and Logan to watch out for. Being stuck in the middle isn't easy but I know Ross is up to the task in the end. Should be interesting to see if the ADA is a recurring character next season. She certainly would replace Nicole Wallace as the most hated woman in the Criminal Intent world. LOL Yes, I'm still hoping Nicole is killed off on this show already. Whether it's a silver bullet from Eames' gun or a stake driven through her calloused heart by Goren, I just want the bitch gone.

Ah but back to Logan. I will definitely miss him. Am working on a slide show of Noth/Logan to help my grieving process. I'm glad I wasn't sobbing over his death last night so it's a celebration. What a great case file to send out a great character.

Over at Major Case there's also been mention of how this episode set things up so we are now concerned for Wheeler and her fiance as the new season begins. I think Wheeler's developed very nicely into a character we care about. Funny how it was her absence that made me realize how well she fit in with Logan.

So off walks Logan into the unknown. Here's hoping he finds something to connect to. And here's wishing Chris Noth all the best and many thanks for giving us eight years of Mike Logan.

Last Rights - Immediate Impression

A fitting last episode for one of the L&O franchise's best characters ever.

Logan questioning a questionable witness

So I was a bit surprised by the ending. My initial reaction on Major Case was "That's it?!?!?" Literally. LOL

However, overall it was a most excellent case file. Here are my initial thoughts:

Wow, another maze of names but only one suspect. I rather liked that twist on the multiple suspect theme.

Case file was excellent. The frustration I felt with that ADA made me want have her taken down. I wish they could have gotten her on something. That b*tch acting in the press as if she was going to re-open the case like it was her idea. Very true of people in powerful positions. They get away with stuff normal people wouldn't be able to. Look at the Bush Administration! Oddly enough I thought of them when I looked at ADA Driver out there acting like she was the champion of justice.

Loved that Logan leaked that story to the press to force her hand. Poor Ross was rather stuck in a very difficult position. I could tell from the look on his face after Driver literally threatened him that he wanted to throttle her, too. But he was also afraid of the fall out for the department.

Poor Wheeler! Is her fiance guilty or being set up? I am not quite sure at this point. I just don't see how Wheeler, a Major Case detective would miss any clues about her fiance's dealings. Then again they say love is blind.

So I am assuming between now and the next season, Mike is going to resign and leave? Or perhaps before the end of the next Goren/Eames episode we'll know? Goldblum comes in as Logan's replacement and Ross introduces him to Goren and Eames in passing and says he's replacing Logan?

I'm just glad they let Logan go out on his own and I loved that he went out with his sense of humor. As the priest tells him God is watching out for him and he replies that he's got a lot of work to do.

So Mike in the end takes counsel from a priest. Perhaps somewhat fitting. Since the priest was a friend of Lenny Briscoe's, it's almost like Lenny providing a source of sage advice for Logan when he most needs it?

So I want to know what happened to the doctor who informed Wheeler and Ross about a patient of interest? Do they throw these fake parts into casting calls to throw us off? LOL Hey, it probably was cut for time but you never know.

Not sure how much I like or dislike the ending yet. Will have to think about it. My husband is frustrated by it but I told him maybe the writers were trying to placate all the people who are upset that they seem to be dumbing down their scripts and are just making us figure it out for ourselves. We're smart enough, right? ;)

I will probably have more coherent thoughts in the next few days. I just wanted to jot down my first impressions while it's still fresh.

BTW, I swear USA gets word of people posting promos and photos on their blogs because last week they had Neighborhood Watch photos up post haste. Now there's still Neighborhood Watch photos and nothing from Last Rites!

Hey USA, I'm trying to share the love and the promotion so get with the program! LOL Just trying my Faith Yancy impression. ;-)

I Got Nuthin'

It's a lazy Sunday. We had to get up early because Jimmy and the girls were coming over for brunch. It was our anniversary brunch. We couldn't do lunch or dinner because the girls had to be at their mom's by noon because they had a family thing with that side of the family.

Unfortunately, Lotus had stomach flu so no one went anywhere. Well, I believe Lilly and Lula got to go with other family members but Staci and Lotus stayed home. Jimmy stopped by to drop off our present - a framed collage of the girls - but he didn't want to hang around as he was feeling kind of queasy himself and didn't want to infect us.

Now we're here just hanging out, roasting coffee and watching a Myth Busters marathon. LOL Very laid back and I'm fine with that.

So basically I got nuthin' to write about. Well, I probably would if I gave it some thought but my brain doesn't want to engage so I'll just leave you first with this quote from presidential candidate John McCain in regards to Russia's invasion of Georgia: "In the 21st century, nations don’t invade other nations."

I suppose he was having a senior moment and forgot about Iraq? Do the Bush operatives - the ones who got Bush into office and who are now trying to get McCain in so he help cover up any paper trails or other things of their misdeeds when they leave office as oppose to uncover them if it's an Obama administration - give a stupid pill to their candidates to make them easier to handle? Maybe Dubya wasn't always stupid? (Okay, that's a stretch but you never know) I know John McCain used to be smart. He used to have a backbone. He used to be a maverick. He used to have scruples. Now he's puckered up and has his lips firmly pressed to the Bush Administration's backside so they can help him become president. How sad.

And now he's beginning to sound like Bush who made the following quote in regards to Russia's invasion of Georgia: “...bullying and intimidation are not acceptable ways to conduct foreign policy in the 21st century”

Oh really? Again, what the hell did he think we did in Iraq?

Okay, so I did have a little something to write about.

And finally, here's a video I found on YouTube by OnlyJustWhisper. I discovered her through her LOCI videos but this one is a Stir of Echoes video with a song entitled Whispers in the Dark by Skillet. Stir of Echoes is my favorite Kathryn Erbe movie. I loved both Kathryn and Kevin Bacon in this. Then again I love Kevin Bacon period.

So I'm really done now. Wouldn't you hate it if I actually did have something to say? This could run on for pages. LOL

A Fan Meme

And here's yet another meme I found today.

Fans

1. Who or what is on your computer's wallpaper?

Vincent D'Onofrio and Kathryn Erbe from Law & Order: Criminal Intent as Detectives Goren and Eames.

2. Go through your DVD/pre-bought video collection. Which three actors or actresses feature the most in them?

Harrison Ford, Johnny Depp and Anthony Hopkins

I don't own a lot of DVDs, though so it's not indicative of my top favorites - though these three are definitely on my list.

3. Go through your book shelves. Which three authors have written the majority of the books?

Agatha Christie, Isaac Asimov, Stephen King

I'd say that would be about right. My top three favorite fiction genres would be mystery, science fiction and horror.

4. And what about CDs?

Neil Young, R.E.M., Beatles - if you count all the solo stuff together with the group recordings and I do. LOL

5. Open up the picture folder(s) on your hard drive. Of which actor/actress/movie/tv series/musician do you have the most pictures?

Kathryn Erbe, Vincent D'Onofrio and R.E.M./Michael Stipe.

I was surprised I ended up with so much Kathryn Erbe photos as I've always complained about how hard it was to find photos of her as compared to Vincent D'Onofrio. I think I have to thank Strange Visitor for that, along with other bloggers like BobbyG and untapdtreasure. There are others but I've been getting a lot of Erbe/Eames images from them lately. :-)

6. And what about your Live Journal user pictures?

Well, I don't really put anything on Livejournal. I just have an account to be able to comment on friends' blogs and to join some of the interesting communities there .

So I'll just say all of my Blogger photos are of LOCI/Goren and Eames and R.E.M.

Some Humorous LOCI Moments

Time to pimp another blog/journal! Went to check all my sites and came across this little gem. It's by untapdtreasure on Livejournal. She makes wonderful icons and banners. I posted four of my favorites from her LOCI humorous collection. She also writes fan fiction and makes LOCI videos. And like me, she loves Alex Eames as much as she loves Bobby Goren. :-) For some great Kathryn Erbe and Vincent D'Onofrio icons and photos, check out her pages. She's got a lot of them. She does tend to be a shipper but she does have non-ship items as well.

Random News Watching Observations

The Democrats are going to implode. The Clintons are apparently undermining Obama's chances of winning with their convention demands. It's going to be the Clinton show when it should be the Obama show. Bill just can't let go can he? Hillary should have dumped him after they left the White House. He's proving to be more of a liability than an asset and he's still being an ass. Then again Hillary isn't exactly a victim. She stays in the marriage for political reasons, I think. I was supporting her until the end. But now it's time to move on and she just won't. You want to give me closure? Let Obama have his moment and his time and LET IT GO! I think Obama is being much too nice on this whole matter and as previous campaigns have proven, nice guys don't stand a chance of winning. Why do you think John McCain decided to move into the Bush camp? He's listening to Karl Rove, he's playing dirty politics by putting out smear campaign ads during the Olympics! Talk about bad taste.

Karl Rove is evil. What a contemptuous little bastard he is. I wonder what it feels like to have no conscience? That's what I'd ask him if I got to interview him...yeah, like maybe when Hell freezes over?

Bill O'Reilly is quite a contradiction. When you read what he's written in his books, he actually sounds rational and while I don't agree with him, he's sounding like he's thinking and has come to well thought out conclusions. When you see him on his show, he's a bombastic, obnoxious, arrogant jerk. And yes, the stuff he writes when not taken out of context by liberals, is actually thought out. The man is not an idiot. He just seems like one on his television show. Oh and even if he isn't an idiot I still don't like him.

The stupidest person I've seen on television tonight - and this time it's actually not George W. Bush - is Darragh Murphy of People United Means Action (PUMA). This woman is so stupid, she is saying she won't vote for Barrack Obama despite the fact that John McCain is so far away from what she supportedly believes in that I think it's amazing she grew into adulthood without doing something incredibly stupid to kill herself. Darwin Awards anyone? The woman makes no sense and deserves the kind of country she will get if McCain should win. Unfortunately, I have to live in that same country and I don't deserve any of the messes we're in economically or in the war department. I was opposed to them in 2000, 2004 and I'm opposed to them now. This Murphy woman was a Hillary supporter and apparently is upset that Barack won. Take your sour grapes and go away, lady. You make all of us women and Hillary supporters look bad.

Btw, I wonder how John McCain is avoiding the 'flip flop' moniker when he went from declaring he wanted to run a clean campaign and not engage in character assassination to nothing but negative ads? The right wing nuts are putting up signs of flip flop on Obama, where are the left wing nut jobs? See, that's one thing I have to say about the Republicans, they know how to do nasty, mean-spirited much better than the Democrats who have apparently been reduced to whining and in-fighting. What a horrible choice to be faced with. We need a new party.

In more fun news, found this over on Gorengal's blog. It's an invisibility cloak. Just like Harry Potter wears! I really want one! Think of all the great stories a reporter could stumble upon with that!

And of course this kind of made me chuckle.

It's a story in The Guardian by Kate Connolly in Berlin. Here's an excerpt.

The German-speaking world of Kafka scholars hit out yesterday over a British academic's claims that the writer had a penchant for hard porn.

James Hawes, a Kafka expert and novelist, claims in his book Excavating Kafka, published in Britain yesterday, that the writer was a subscriber to upmarket pornography. Furious German academics reacted by accusing Hawes of prudishness, sensationalism and even antisemitism.

On the upside, this may get more people interested in Kafka. It's amazing how many people don't know who he was! What the heck do they teach kids in school these days I wonder? You can view the whole article here: Kafka and porn?

Oh and Olympics musings are rich. This week there was some flap about the cute little girl singing in the opening ceremonies. It turns out she wasn't really singing, just lip syncing - you know, like Pierce Brosnan should have done in Mama Mia. Seems the little girl who was actually singing wasn't considered 'cute' enough to be seen so they used her voice with another little girl playing the part of 'cute little Chinese girl.' It was so much ado about nothing! From a country that seems to value shallow, superficial appearance than anything with actual substance, I think it's incredibly hypocritical. Besides, did these talking heads in the media ever hear about Hollywood back in the day? Do they not know Audrey Hepburn wasn't really singing in My Fair Lady? Or that Natalie Wood wasn't really singing in West Side Story? Someone else was singing while they were lip syncing.

I used to think that was wrong. I used to think if you were the star you should also be the singer. However, having seen the clip of Pierce Brosnan (and I do love Pierce Brosnan, really, I do) singing (and I use that term very loosely here) in Mama Mia, I have to say, the idea of someone who can actually sing do the singing is more acceptable now than it used to be for me.

No I don't like that policy and I don't like it that people are chosen for various tasks based on their appearance. But in the real world, it happens all the time. We may think we're not like that but we are. If you walked into a bank and the teller were standing there with a colorful Mohawk, wouldn't you stop and consider moving your account to another bank? Even if it was for just a millisecond? Honestly, I would. This same person in a record store? No problem.

And finally, on a local level, I am absolutely amazed at the stupidity and boldness of some people. At the paper I work at the editor got a phone call from a reader, complaining that complained about a photo on the back of the paper. It depicted an interracial couple. A black man and a white woman. She actually had the audacity to tell the editor she thought it was awful to put a picture like that in the paper because it encouraged interracial marriage and that was wrong. The editor's response? "Are you kidding me? I can't believe you are actually calling me to say something that ignorant!" There was more that was said but the bottom line was, that not only are there bigots out there still, but they have no idea how out of step they are with reality.

My editor was absolutely livid. She couldn't believe someone would be stupid enough to actually come out and call in a complaint like that. It''s really a personal issue for her as her sister is married to a black man so she has an interracial family.

There was another stupid person at the paper this week. She came in to cancel her subscription. As her request was being processed, the circulation guy asked why she was canceling. She said because she didn't want to have to read through the newspaper to censor the nasty parts from her children. I stopped on my way back to the newsroom when I overheard this because I was intrigued. I grabbed a copy of the paper from the day before - the one she was complaining about and found the article she was referencing.

She said that the article read "like something out of Penthouse." Really? It was a recap of a rape trial. The victim testified that the defendant tied her up, groped and fondled her breasts and raped her. Nothing more descriptive than that. I couldn't figure it out. I came so close to asking her, "Have you ever read Penthouse?" but then decided she would think I was a degenerate for knowing what was actually in Penthouse.

After she left, one of sales guys said, "Dennis! You should have asked her - How do YOU know what's in Penthouse?" We all just burst out laughing.

Apparently everyone within earshot was reading the paper to figure out what she was talking about. The general consensus was that she needs to take a reality check. And of course the obligatory wise-crack like, "Gee, I was pissed that we would have something like that in our paper and I wouldn't know about it," made the rounds and we finally settled back down to doing some work.

There was a discussion on vincentdonofriofans.net about intelligence and whether or not most people are smart or not (it's in the General Topics section) and it got me thinking that sadly the answer after the week I had would be no.

And now off to obsess more about Criminal Intent.

More Obsessing

Vincent D'Onofrio & John Glover (as Declan Gage)
in season finale, Frame

To all my non-LOCI friends, please bear with me as the next week may be just filled with Criminal Intent stuff. I've got some form of ADD that keeps me from sticking to one topic continuously for too long - as evidenced by my posts from my daily life to R.E.M. to politics to current events to Criminal Intent. However, you have to understand that this weekend is the last Logan episode on LOCI and only if you've been in love with Logan since you first laid eyes on him on the mothership will you possibly understand my angst over his departure.

And of course next week we see the final Goren/Eames episode of the season and from what I've seen of the promo, it's going to be a nail biter and quite intense. Now that can be either good or bad. Good as in Blindspot, Siren Call, The War At Home, Brothers Keeper, Endgame and Amends or bad as in Untethered. I'm so nervous I can't stand it! This could seriously keep me up at night worrying.

USA has a promo up for both Frame and Last Rites. Frame comes first then Last Rites.

On the upside it sounds like Logan is going to leave the force as opposed to being carried out in a body bag. Perhaps not leave the force but certainly Major Case.

Will post promos for everything here when I find them in places where they allow me to embed them.

Oh and in more LOCI news, Diana Son and Charlie Rubin have been courteous enough to finish answering questions at Major Case. I'm not sure what the status is about new members right now. They weren't allowing new members because they were experiencing some kind of technical problem with that feature. If you can't sign up, keep trying because eventually they will when they work out the bugs. The interview is an exclusive with that forum and that forum only so you'll have to have an account if you want to sign up.

I encourage anyone who wants intelligent discussion without the nastiness and sniping about everything from the show, the cast, the crew, other forums, etc. to go there. No personal attacks allowed no matter what the excuse. Civilized, intelligent discussion and disagreement and critiques are allowed. Just don't be an obnoxious jerk who thinks they're better than everyone else - cast and crew included in some extreme cases I've come across elsewhere- and you'll be fine. The writers seem to respect the forum administrators and the members enough so despite some of our less than stellar reviews of certain episodes, the writers apparently know we respect them and appreciate them despite everything we may say about an episode that may be more to the negative than positive.

And of course I just adore Charlie Rubin and his sense of humor. And I think I've added Diana Son to my list of women I want to be when I grow up.

Oh and I have a couple of blog referrals for you again. First BobbyG has capped and scripted Jones from season 1. Very lovely and well done. And then there's a great site I haven't mentioned before - at least I don't remember doing so because the mind is the first thing to go and after today, it's all worn out - it's Basric's site where she does incredible work. She caps and scripts Goren/Eames episodes in such great detail! No caps of anyone not Goren, Eames, Ross or Rodgers. In other words, no guest stars unless they happen to be in the shot. No complaints from me as generally when I go looking for caps I'm looking for the regulars. ;-)

They're both very lovely ladies and would love to know if you appreciate their work. :-)

So I'm off to find more Criminal Intent stuff to obsess over.

[NP: Some Chinese opera a friend of mine sent me. Jury is still out on whether or not I can even learn to appreciate it. Will make it a post down the line.]

Counting Down to the Last Logan Episode

Chris Noth as Mike Logan

In three days it will be Chris Noth's final episode as Detective Mike Logan on Law & Order: Criminal Intent. I think it will a sad one for long-time fans of Logan. Even if he doesn't get himself killed off, it's the second time we have to say goodbye to him.

It's been quite a season for Logan. Most of the best episodes from season 7 has belonged to Mike Logan. The best of the best being Senseless. That was the first really big sign that the job may be starting to get to him. A senseless murder of three young college students really got to him. Especially when the final victim succumbs to her wounds and dies at the end of the episode.

As the season wore on Logan took more blows. In Ten Count, a young man Logan mentored ended up killing the man who had his brother killed. The boy tells Logan he doesn't have to worry about him anymore. Logan looks incredibly sad and frustrated that he couldn't have done more to help the kid.

Logan stares down Gus (guest star Miguel Ferrar)

At first the popular speculation was that Logan would be killed in the final episode. But with new information we obsessed fans manage to get our hands on daily, it seems Logan could just hand in his badge and walk away instead. He still may be wounded but it's looking like he will in the end just walk away.

I find it most interesting that this season has brought both Logan and Goren a lot of anguished moments. I also find it quite a contrast that both men seem to be coming from the same place but end up handling things in the exact opposite way. Goren desperately fights back to get back on the force after a suspension because his all-encompassing job is all he's got. Logan on the contrary ends up leaving the force because the all-encompassing job is the only thing he's got in his life right now and apparently it's not enough.

Of course that whole statement goes right out the window if Logan gets killed. I'm really hoping he isn't killed.

Then of course we have to see what happens to Goren. I learned on majorcase-ci a couple of days ago that Declan Gage (John Glover) will be returning in the final Goren/Eames episode entitled Frame. This is going to be an interesting one-two punch of a season finale!

Because I have too much time on my hands...

...this morning, I found this meme at 3x Thursday. I do have work to do but I've been hampered by three people not returning my phone calls. Does anyone ever get into the office by 10 a.m. anymore? Seriously. All three people - a local politician, the local food bank lady and the owner of the new bakery I want to do a story on were all 'not in yet' at 9:45 a.m. I know things come up but what are the chances that three out of three?

Oh well, guess I'll stop complaining and just do the meme then volunteer to sort the mail. Hey, it's something to do, you know? LOL

1. Do you freak out about the little things or the big things? Why?

I try not to freak out at all. Usually it would be over something REALLY BIG. The small stuff really doesn't bother me at all. Then again it depends on my mood. Sometimes when I'm stressed, even the littlest inconvenience or problem will set me off. Doesn't happen often but when they do, you don't want to be anywhere near me.

2. How do you handle death and dying?

I'd say I handle it very well. My parents taught me to deal with the possibility of their eventual demise (they were both 43 when I was born in the dark ages so it was a real concern that they would die before I grew up). So I am well versed in the cycle of life and while grief and loss are inevitable, I think I handle them in healthy ways. I still get teary eyed thinking of my parents sometimes but mostly I remember the good stuff and not the bad and it makes it all right.

We're all going to die someday. The only kind of loss I think I wouldn't handle well would be the loss of my stepson or one of my granddaughters. We prepare our whole lives for the death of our parents because it's expected. But no one expects their child to pre-decease them.

3. How do you handle being yelled at by someone? What do you do about it?

Usually I try to be reasonable. 99% of the time I am successful. However, once again there's that old 'mood' situation. If you catch me at the wrong time, you don't want to be yelling at me. The aftermath won't be pretty. It's especially disconcerting because - as some friends once told me - I am deceptively 'quiet looking.' Most likely it has to do with my being Japanese and being quiet when first entering a situation as I like to observe before I jump into conversations, etc. I give the impression of being someone who would not necessarily answer back if yelled at.

WRONG! Friends of mine also tell me they'd hate to be on the wrong side of an argument with me because I have a very sharp tongue and I take no prisoners.

Well, that's it. Short but sweet. Gotta go check and see if there's something I can do to be useful or else I may just call all those people back and tell them to call my cell phone instead of the office so I can go home and sit. It's so much more comfortable to sit at home. LOL

Rethinking the Olympics

After a spectacular opening ceremony show, the 2008 Beijing Olympics got off to a great start!

Yes, I know I was unhappy about the Olympics being held in China, an oppressive country that seems to regularly trample on human rights without thought. But then, here's a post I made on an article posted at Gather, the writing group I still post at occasionally.

I haven't really been into the Olympics for years but I have to admit the opening ceremony was most impressive and despite my general feeling of dislike for the politics of China and their oppressive policies, I have to admit I do find them fascinating.

I find this year I am getting sucked into the swimming matches as American Michael Phelps is such a phenomenal athlete. Yes, he's an American and there is that sense of national pride when I see him win but I think he's the kind of athlete I would cheer for no matter where he came from. Like Olga Korbut from the Soviet Union in the seventies. Or Nadia Comaneci in the eighties.

The games are a nice respite from all the political angst. Wouldn't it be nice if we could resolve our conflicts through peaceful competition instead of killing each other?

Oh and while I don't condone what China has done in regards to Tibet or anything else for that matter, I say let the country who is without sin cast the first stone. We've all at some point in time or other and perhaps even now, stepped on civil rights and oppressed others. Again, not condoning it but seriously, get a grip. Just for the time of the Olympics let's put that aside and concentrate on the spirit of the games.

I was thinking of boycotting the Olympic sponsors, etc. at one time when the whole Tibet incident flared up but really, why punish the event that celebrates unity? Even the Dalai Lama said we should celebrate the Olympics and not boycott.

So I am enjoying the Olympics that I do see and encourage those who aren't to do so. You are missing out on some great historic moments.

And another plus is my granddaughter was staying over that night and my husband wanted to watch the opening ceremonies. My granddaughter, who knows she's part Japanese, has a bit of a fascination with Asia. That's a good thing. She started asking questions about China and the people and asked about the differences between Chinese and Japanese. So we started talking about it and she learned a few things about her culture and a bit about China. I need to really start getting on the lessons of Japanese culture with them. This was a great way to start.

So it's with quite a bit of surprise that I find myself more interested in the Olympics than I have been in years. China really is a fascinating country.

A Blast From My Past!

I have to give you a bit of history before you read the following parody. I stumbled across this after a discussion on Goddessdster's blog about the upcoming Star Trek movie with a whole new Captain Kirk, Spock, Scotty, Sulu, Uhura, etc.

Back in the nineties, my husband and I signed up for CompuServe. We were online and quite happy. I found a Star Trek forum where I could obsess to my heart's content. The first movie that was going to feature the Next Generation crew was coming up with the original series cast making an appearance, mostly Captain Kirk. It was going to be the 'passing of the torch' to the next generation - literally. We were so excited! It was like my Criminal Intent forums when we all get excited over a new season!

There was a thread speculating on the script and storyline. We got bits and pieces of information - kind of like we Criminal Intent fans have on that show - and we speculated like crazy! Someone started joking about how we all had such great ideas we could probably write our own script! I don't know who started it, but one of my Trekker buddies and I started this "oh, my inside source said" jokes. Forum members thought it was funny - some didn't but you always have those people who don't like anything and cant' seem to censor themselves when it comes to posts you don't want to read, you know? - so things eventually got to the point where one of us said "Oh, I got a couple pages of script!" And we started posted things we wrote. One thing led to another and well, we were getting such positive feedback we just kept it going.

It was all great fun. In thinking back on it, I have to say, that was really my first attempt at fan fiction writing, not my Criminal Intent stuff. LOL So this script got to be popular enough that people were sending it to friends, etc. and somehow, copies of it started circulating at Star Trek conventions! And then, something even funnier happened. Lawyers for Paramount, the studio that produced the Star Trek shows and movies, got wind of the some of those "leaks" of the script to the general public.

These morons who probably never saw an episode of Star Trek let alone the movies or the script, contacted the forum we were posting on and threatened legal action on the forum and my writing partner. They didn't pick on me because the post they got hold of was one made by him, not me. So we were pretty much out of business after that. The funny part was the lawyers sounded as if they thought it was the actual script!

It was a really funny script, though. I no longer have a copy of it as it resided on a computer long dead and gone and back then I didn't think to make back ups of things. I did, however, send copies of it out to online friends in various states and also Australia, German, Hong Kong, etc. LOL So it is out there somewhere. Not to mention those scripts that made their way around the conventions! That really had me laughing for months.

Shortly there-after, a fellow forum member who loved our script better than what actually came out by the official script writers, re-wrote the lyrics to Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody and apparently it had a longer shelf life than my script. As I searched through Google for any signs of my script. I found that parody!

So here is something written for myself and my fellow errant 'script writer' after the whole incident. I came across it shortly after going on a search for any possible archives of that forum and of people I might be able to find a copy of my own co-authored script. I'll provide an actual link to it here. I plan to check it out more later but right now I'm tickled to have found this!

More on Neighborhood Watch

Got more photos from the USA site. Last night it said the photos were there but they kept disappearing after I clicked on it, only to be replaced by Amends. It took me several tries to get the photos I did! The last one on my first post was from the photos published of Noth and Nicholson on set filming this episode.

Another gorgeous Logan shot

Wheeler & Logan with bitch ADA

Wheeler, Ross and Logan with loser cold case cop

Ross, Wheeler and Logan's shoulder

Also thought I'd throw in a bit of commentary about the topic of Sex Offender lists. I think they're a great idea. I want to know if any sex offenders are living near my granddaughters. However, I think there needs to be a better way of distinguishing between hormonal, teenage boys and an actual pedophile. This episode brought up the question of how to preserve a person's civil liberties while protecting the general population and potential victims of a sex offender/pedophile. What really bothers me is the black & white view our justice system currently takes of this kind of crime. Are we all so stupid we can't distinguish the difference between a true pedophile and that hormonal teenage boy?

It's most frustrating to think about it and there are no easy answers, but I personally know of one teenage boy who, at age 19, had sex with his then 15 year old girlfriend and when they broke up a year and a half later, she accused him of rape. He was convicted of statutory rape because she was underaged. He wasn't killed or physically harmed but he was harassed by his neighbors. He had to move 4 times and still couldn't get away from the harassment. Even later when word got out of what had really happened, people kept harassing him anyway! He and his parents moved away to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.

Yes, I know there are no easy answers but we really need to do something about this. I believe some people who commit certain crimes should have to give up some of their civil liberties. But for those teenage boys who have sex with their teenage girlfriends, there's got to be some other solution.

There are so many layers to this episode - and pretty much every episode of Criminal Intent. Probably why it's not more popular. American audiences seem to like things kept simple. Desperate Housewives anyone? Excuse me, I have to go throw up at the thought of watching that. And don't even get me started on the worst of the Law & Order shows, SVU. Sorry, but it's just stupid. It plays to our most basest nature and gives us two 'over the top' detectives who shouldn't be allowed to carry guns.

Funny How Life Works Out

A while back, BobbyG asked if I'd write about how my husband and I met. Since our 26th anniversary is tomorrow, I thought I'd write the following.

I was raised by two traditional people to be a very non-traditional individual. I don't think they realized what they were doing when they were raising me but I'm grateful for it anyway.

Even as a young child and I'd play with my baby dolls, I wanted to be 'aunty' not 'mommy.' I preferred playing with my stuffed animals than baby dolls. I don't know if it was because I was an only child that I was more like a miniature adult than a child. From the very beginning I didn't really think about growing up, getting married and having a family.

So by the time I got to college, marriage and family were not part of my plans. I was going to have a career and be an independent woman. It was always understood as I was growing up that my going to college was a given. I was smart enough and my father made sure there was plenty of money to send me anywhere. They both always told me how marriage and a family would be great but only after college. And then only after I had established myself on my own.

My parents were both 43 years old when I was born. They were worried that something might happen to them before I could grow up. That's why the stress on independence and making sure I could take care of myself. After 18 years of drilling it into me, it seemed to work.

I dated but not very seriously. I did have one serous boyfriend who ended up cheating on me and that certainly left a very bad feeling in me for committed relationships. Coming out that one I ended up with one of my best friends who was coming out of a relationship himself and that was really not a good thing. We were more suited to being friends and that ended awkwardly. No definite ending. Unlike my first serious relationship where I dumped all his stuff into a garbage bag and tossed it unceremoniously on his front porch after taking my stuff from his house, the second relationship sort of faded out.

So with that kind of history, it's a miracle that I ended up marrying so soon afterwards. People thought it would be a disaster. My husband and I couldn't have been more different. He was a Republican for heavens sake! Oh the horror. LOL I was a lifelong Democrat and much more liberal than I am now.

My husband was a Republican, he was from Michigan, he was divorced with a child, he was a science geek and was someone who was well read but who didn't seem to enjoy literature as much as he enjoyed text books. LOL At one time I wanted to be an English major so you know that was kind of weird to me. A man who wanted to read my Microbiology text book. What? He loved meteorology and even had a weather instrument shack in his yard that the state meteorology department came down to help him set up. I can't stand the meteorologists on television who talk about 'upper level lows' so excitedly when all I want to know is how hot or cold it's going to be and if there will be any precipitation.

We met while we were both working at the same radio station in Honolulu. I had been there for about two years when he came along. I remember my first sighting of him. I was doing some spots before my midnight to five a.m. shift began and was heading towards the front office to get my ad copy when I saw him walk past down the adjacent hallway towards the exit. I ran to the where the hallways intersected and watched him walk to the door. I didn't say anything, just looked. I must say he had a nice butt and was dressed impeccably. I'd never guess with his long hair and those tight black pants he wore that he was a Republican. LOL

I immediately ran back to ask Harvey, the guy on the air on the AM station who was working the FM that night? We just had an influx of new staff since the FM went from automated to live DJ recently. I hadn't met all the people on staff there yet and really wanted to know who the gorgeous new one was. Yes, it was a bit shallow. Most of my relationships weren't based on looks. In fact, none of them were until my husband came along.

Sadly, our first meeting didn't exactly put us in good standing with each other. I was NEVER late for an air shift before until I had to relieve him one Saturday night. I forget exactly what happened but I know he was very unhappy. I believe this was one of those I was stuck in traffic getting out of Waikiki. It happened before but I managed to show up right on time. Usually I liked to be there at least a half an hour before for prep. This time, I was just plain late. Unlike previous times when I was a passenger in a car and I could get out and just flippin' walk because it ended up being faster, I couldn't get out and do that since I was in my own car all by my lonesome.

I felt horrible about it as I hate it when people are late and until now had never been late before. He was like me. Never late - and he stresses to this day - EVER. So he was mad, I was stressed and let's just say we didn't exactly impress each other on first meeting.

But, somehow, after working together a few more times, we ended up chatting and I did think he was hot. He also thought I looked was quite attractive. He had a thing for Japanese women apparently. His ex-wife with whom he had a son was Japanese. She was also in radio. I heard about her and knew people who knew her but never met her myself.

It was very odd to my friends that I ended up marrying him. They thought we were just not going to be compatible. But they were going on the superficial. When you share the same values with a person and you have the same moral values, life plans, etc. - it's possible to fall in love and to make it work.

Fortunately I got along very well with his son, who seemed to really like me. If he didn't he would have made it known. His mother told me stories of things he did and said to a couple of guys she dated. That was also a plus.

He didn't want any more children and I didn't want any. We seemed to get along well despite our political differences and the rough start we had upon our first meeting. We have the same smart-ass sense of humor, too.

It's funny how after spending 26 years together you start to think alike. My husband has actually started turning more liberal and I'm a little more conservative. Though I think he's more liberal now than I am. I'd take more credit for it but I know the Bush Administration has helped, too.

Basically, I love the way his mind works. He's warped like me and while we don't have very many superficial things in common, we have a lot of life's important things in common. A common outlook on religion, a common moral standard, a common life goal and we laugh a lot together. That's most important.

We've been through some pretty difficult times. He suffers from depression and we've had a few rough patches when his medication needed to be adjusted but overall we've survived and we have far more in the positive column than the negative.

So we're at 26 years and counting. If you asked me at age 18 where I'd be at 49, I'd never have guessed a small town in Michigan, happily married for 26 years with a stepson and three granddaughters. It really is funny how life works out.

Neighborhood Watch - Initial Impressions

Here's my initial reaction to Neighborhood Watch, the second to the last Logan/Wheeler episode. There are spoilers so please don't read if you don't want to know. :-)

Lots of red herrings in this one! Kept me guessing until the end.

That weird cold case cop, the b*tch ADA, the two morons who actually did kill poor Kyle, the jerk cop and neighborhood vigilante. The list goes on and on. For some reason I kept thinking the ADA had something to do with it. Maybe I just wanted her to have something to do with it because she was such a b*tch. Anyone who cozies up to 'Faith Yancy' has got be dishonest and willing to do anything to get a conviction to make her record look good. It would be nice if on one show someone would shoot the Faith Yancy character to shut her up. It wouldn't affect the real Nancy Grace but it would make me feel better to think she could be put out of our misery on the show at least. Has the woman ever met a defendant she gave even a scintilla of reasonable doubt? I bet she was just like the ADA in this episode.

Ooops, sorry, got off on a rant. Back to the episode.

So Logan is slowly getting worn down? Seems he's feeling quite jaded. Hell, Ross seems rather jaded even. These crimes are mostly stupid. He's right. They are just mind bogglingly discouraging. Logan seemed to be most frustrated and I think that's the idea.

Seems he's having a series of incredibly disappointing outcomes to his cases. This gives me hope that in the end he's going to walk away from the job, not get carried out in a body bag. There is the possibility that he will be shot but at least there is also hope that he won't die.

I can see his frustrations with the system. The attitude of the ADA, the cold case cop trying to get some glory in a dead end job, the attitude of the sergeant who harassed Jones, the fact that Jones was just a kid who got involved with the wrong girl. Another, rich family and their screwed attitude towards the 'wrong' kind of people. Definitely a recurring theme overall.

It really was sad that the idiot who killed Kyle was just a loser thinking it would be exciting to kill someone! Of course seeing his mother was as much of a loser it didn't surprise me he turned out that way. The kid didn't have much of a chance in life.

Several most frustrating people and situations. Makes you feel like it's all just futile. I can see Logan walking away from it all after something like this.

Oh and Wheeler's fiance? I'm not impressed. Wheeler can do better than that. I know one thing, if I were her fiance and I met Logan, I'd be a little upset that she gets to spend more time with him than me. LOL

Overall I liked this episode but it left me feeling frustrated. I think that's probably the goal, though. I know they're showing us Logan in his own downward spiral and this sort of fits in very well with that.

Recovery Sunday

After a couple of Ibuprofens and two cups of strong coffee, I felt like getting out of bed. Not that I actually got out of bed. My husband and I stayed put and watched the USA and China basketball game from the Olympics. Yes, I know, I said I was tired of it already but my husband stumbled upon it while channel surfing - honestly, it's DNA imprinted on all males of the species to channel surf - and we started watching it and got sucked into it. Generally neither of us are sports-oriented by even we enjoy watching the best of the best. And we were hoping to see an improved USA men's basketball team after the last embarrassing third place finish in Athens. We weren't disappointed.

So at about 12:30 we finally dragged ourselves out to the kitchen and started our little coffee roasting ritual for the week. He does the roasting, I just help with the cooling off the beans and putting them in their containers. We've had a couple of fire alarm episodes since starting this regular roasting of coffee but not recently. The cats, still take off and hide under the bed or in a closet when they hear the coffee roaster start up. LOL They're not taking any chances it seems.

Well, the news has been all over John Edwards now that he 'confessed.' Seems his confession comes up because ABC news was investigating and discovered the money trail from his campaign to the relocation of Rielle Hunter and her child to California. Most interesting. I'm still pondering the news blackout of this story for so long. Yes, they did confirm that the problem was the National Enquirer was the initial source of the story. And yes, I do understand the hesitance to follow up on a lead by the National Enquirer. However, I still don't understand that they didn't even mention it on any of the talking head weekend news shows. Wouldn't this be right up Chris Matthews' alley? One of the guest talking heads could perhaps bring it up on the segment "Tell me something I don't know." Nothing. Not a word. It's sad that it makes me think FIX news actually has a point about the 'liberal' media. Though I don't think it's a liberal media. They did dog Clinton about his affairs when he was running for president. And of course let's not forget the whole Monica Lewinski debacle. I just think there are other forces at work out there and I don't like it. It would be nice if it were as simple as a 'liberal media,' but it isn't.

Paranoid, you say? Let me remind you once again about my instincts and John "Damien" Edwards. When I smell a rat, there's generally a rat. It may not be evident immediately. In fact it took four years for the John Edwards 'rat' to be exposed. There's something up with this news blackout and it's not as simple as a 'liberal media.' And you all know - well, those who have been discussing politics with me for a while anyway - that I'm not one of those 'conspiracy' theorists either. So when I say something is not right, it's not something I say lightly.

Other than that I've been visiting my regular round of blogs and forums and of course YouTube. I found the following video a while ago but was reminded of it in a search for something completely different. The video consists of scenes from Dead Like Me. It was only on for two seasons on the Showtime network. Sci-Fi channel had reruns on for a while but I think it's done now.

Dead Like Me starred Ellen Muth and Mandy Patinkin. It was a brilliantly scripted dark comedy. The story centered around Ellen Muth's character, Georgia "George" Lass who was killed by the toilet seat from the space station when it hurtled to earth. Instead of 'dying' like most people, George is recruited to be a 'reaper.' Someone who takes the souls from the body of those dying just before they die so they don't feel any pain upon the instant of death. They then help these souls onto the afterlife. What that is, no one really knows. They just point them in the direction they are to go. Well, perhaps Mandy Patinkin's character, Rube Sofer, does know what the afterlife is but he's not telling. He's the head reaper who assigns the others, including Jasmine Guy, the souls they have to reap. All he has are names, times and places of death. The reapers must find the soon to be dearly departed on their own.

It's really well done and I'm sorry it only lasted two seasons. There's no accounting for taste is there? I suppose people can relate more to thugs (The Sopranos) and nymphomaniacs (Sex And The City) than they can to grim reapers, even though the grim reapers do have an interesting outlook on life and death and the souls they take. It's really a story about George and her insights to her own life and family after her death. It then becomes a story of family and life in general. Really a most excellent show that should have lasted more than just two seasons.

I highly recommend it to anyone looking for something out of the ordinary that isn't a mindless clone of every other show on television. It's available on DVD so rent it and check it out. It's a wonderful show.

The video was posted by KasatkaKsy. The song is Boom Boom Ba by the group Metisse. Yes, that's where I got my fan fiction author name. I happened to be listening to them at the time I created my account at fan fiction.

Because I can't get enough...

...of Vanishing Act, I wanted to share this with you. Some humorous caps from jesshelga at Livejournal. WARNING: She is a shipper so her comments tend to be ship-oriented. But she is very funny and I love her comments about the 'douchey jackass' bad guy and her 'naughty nurse' fantasy comment, which I shamelessly copied. She also writes some wicked fan fiction you can find here, also on Livejournal. And again, she is a shipper so anti-shippers should avoid it.

It's going to be a rough next two weeks. Tomorrow's episode won't be too stressful but next week will be Logan's final episode - they're already running promos for that on USA - and the week after that will be the season finale with Goren/Eames. I'm bracing myself and stocking up with a lot Kleenex because if these finales are anything like Endgame and Renewal, they're going to tug at the heartstrings big time!

Action Packed Weekend

Besides having Lilly over last night and my stepson and two other little ones over at lunch since they had to pick Lilly up anyway, it's been a news filled weekend and it's only half over.

The Olympics seemed to get off to a sour note with two Americans being killed by a Chinese man, Russia has attacked Georgia which is an ally of ours, the John Edwards story is finally breaking big on the mainstream media (to all my liberal friends who told me I was just too cynical when I said there's something about a man who smiles as much as Edwards did that was suspicious, I say I'm sorry I was right) and last but not least Bernie Mac, a youthful age 50, died today from pneumonia related causes. Sad news all around.

The whole John Edwards thing is giving me a case of deja vu. Can you say Ted Haggert? The man who denied, denied, denied and then said, well, maybe I did buy drugs but I didn't have sex with that man! Then said well, he was my massage therapist so I knew him after all. And finally he admitted to the whole thing. I am so afraid John Edwards is going to say tomorrow or in the next few days that the baby is his and that he did pay money to cover it all up.

No wonder scripted dramas on television don't hold a lot of appeal for me anymore - that is except for Criminal Intent. Real life is much more bizarre and sometimes unbelievable.

Personally I had a great Friday evening and Saturday in general. Lilly got to have all the attention to herself - which is why the one grandchild at a time rule seems to be popular with them (unless it's another sister's turn). Lotus was trying to be pouty when I went to pick Lilly up but I brought some new clothes and a couple of Barbies for her and Lula so she pretty much perked up right away. Yeah, I know, bribing them isn't a good idea but it's only because I bought them something because when it's Lotus and Lula's birthdays I buy Lilly something so she won't feel left out. I figure a five dollar Barbie and a new outfit for each of them would be something I could give them so they didn't feel left out.

On a short side note, I am amazed that they love clothes so much. When I was a kid, clothes didn't matter. I just wanted to be clothed. I wanted my Barbie to have great clothes but mine was not an issue. I didn't care about my own clothes until I was in intermediate school. Guess I shouldn't use myself as a measure of what was normal back then, though. I was hardly normal.

So Lilly got a bunch of Barbie stuff and clothes. She was in Barbie heaven the whole time she was here except for a brief Hannah Montana on the computer with Grandpa moment so Grandma could have a bit of a break.

When Lotus and Lula came by with Jimmy to pick Lilly up, they visited for a while and because I am reduced to being a mindless idiot around my granddaughters, I didn't think twice about picking up the two little ones. Lotus wanted me to pick her up and made a game of it. She's quite a beefy little girl that one is. Lula wanted me to do the same with her. My husband was giving me looks like 'oh you're so gonna regret that later' and again, because I am just stupid when the girls are around, I ignored him. So now, after sleeping on the hide-a-bed with Lilly last night and picking up the two - I'd say little ones but honestly, they're not that little any more - younger girls several times today, it takes me several minutes to stand up and move.

Oh and I've decided I will post at least one photo of the three little demons in adorable children disguise so you know why I end up spoiling them rotten. Both my daughter-in-law and stepson have photos of them up so I figure one more isn't going to hurt.

Lotus, Lilly and Lula

Lotus is the one who looks the most like her dad while Lula looks more like her mom. Lilly is the combination. She's got dad's skin coloring and dark hair while she's got mom's blue eyes. They all have dad's chin - something he inherited from his maternal grandmother - see post about Yaemi. When Lilly was born he called his grandmother and told her she had 'the chin.' Grandma said, "Oh I'm so sorry!" LOL I think it's cute.

Mash Game: Predict Your Future

It's going to be a Lilly day so I may not have much online time until Saturday afternoon/evening. It's been a long week and will probably write up something about my county fair adventure. Also am working on an anniversary piece - anniversary as in my husband and I will have been married for 26 years as of August 12.

But in the meantime, this is all I have to offer. Saw it on gorengal's journal a while back and did it then. At the time I came up with different results. I tried to duplicate them but seems the darn thing won't let me be married to Henry Rollins, live in Chicago, have 0 kids (perfections!), etc. So I figured when this one came up, I'd settle for it. After all, I can think of worse things than being married to Bobby Goren! ;-)

Hope you all have a great Friday!

Behold... My Future
I will marry Bobby Goren .
After a wild honeymoon, We will settle down in New York City in our fabulous House.
We will have 3 kid(s) together.
Our family will zoom around in a White Jaguar S Type.
I will spend my days as a Author, and live happily ever after.

Oh the Hypocrisy

Beijing 2008 Olympics

So the Olympics are finally starting. Good. Not because I'm anxious to see any of it but because it hasn't even started yet and I'm already tired of hearing about it. The faster they start the faster they will be over with and I won't have to hear about it any more. The big deal about it this year is it's in the new 'top dog' nation for the 21st century. If the 20th century belonged to America, the 21st century certainly looks like it's starting to become China's century.

China is showing all the signs of being a nation to be reckoned with. They're flexing their muscles with these Olympic games. And there really isn't much we can do about it any more as we are too reliant on them for....well, everything.

One thing I found rather interesting was that George W. Bush is going to be there for the Olympics. Yesterday he made a speech that put down China's repressive ways and their human rights violations. It really was all for show because what the hell is he going to do when they don't listen? And of course there's the hypocrisy of this statement as until his administration took over, our country didn't condone torture. Now we have Guantanamo and water boarding - and the suspension of habeas corpus. We have no room for criticism. Yes, someone told me today that what we've done is nothing compared to what China is doing. That's like saying we're better than they are because we didn't torture in as many different ways or we didn't suppress as many people. How about we didn't kill as many people? Yeah, that makes us better, doesn't it? If you kill only ten people and the other kills twenty, it's a big difference. Tell that to the families of the people who were killed.

China is no better or worse than the United States and quite frankly, it's going to be interesting to see how well they take being the big mean country in the world for a change.

Here's something to watch for during the Olympics, btw. How many athletes will do this and how many will actually know what it means? Considering China's penchant for censorship, probably the Chinese won't have a clue. Oh and considering our mainstream media hasn't really done anything with the John Edwards story either, I think we can also stop pointing fingers at China for censorship when apparently there's some of it going on in this one.

And one more thing, I was amused to find so many of my political discussion friends annoyed with Maureen Dowd. I agree, I didn't like her op-eds about Hillary much. However, I still think she's got a great writing style, will go after anyone who is doing something stupid no matter what party they belong to, and generally has the same sensibilities about life that I do. So don't get so myopic and focus in on the issues you disagree with her on because she's got enough ammunition to throw at both sides of the political aisle. I can relate to not being liked by both sides for various stands I choose to take.

So on that note, I'm off to have some dinner with my husband and watch some Law & Order: Criminal Intent. My husband apparently feels a need to watch them more than once these days as well. LOL I think the obsession may be contagious.

Who I Really Want To Be When I Grow Up

Maureen Dowd

I've mentioned that I wanted to be Alex Eames (portrayed by Kathryn Erbe) when I grow up. I've also said that I want to be Stevie Nicks when I grow up. But after reading this, I've come to the conclusion that I really want to be Maureen Dowd when I grow up. Here's an op-ed piece she wrote that eloquently describes the current attitude of other politicians towards Barack Obama.

Besides writing her column in the New York Times, Ms. Dowd has also penned books which have kept me entertained and sane during the Bush years - Bush part 2 that is. Bush 1 was no where near as infuriating as Bush 2.

Stop by and visit her page at the New York Times. She's been an inspiration for me for years.

Lilly Is Eight

Lilly at age 5
She's bored and not happy because we kept taking pictures.

My oldest granddaughter turns 8 today. My husband wasn't feeling so well breathing-wise last night so we had to miss her birthday party but she'll be coming over on the weekend for a sleepover and to be spoiled rotten.

I'm contemplating posting a more updated photo but am still a bit hesitant to post family photos online. You know, just in case. Yes, I'm paranoid but once you've been plagued by annoying stalkers, it's not something you take lightly.

This picture tells a lot about her, though. She already had an attitude when she was five, I'm nervous about her teenage self. LOL On the upside, she knows grandma doesn't handle whining very well so she's resorting to trying to 'reason' with me instead. It's really cute and being only eight, the reasoning sometimes doesn't make sense but occasionally, grandma gives in just to encourage her debating skills. Start 'em young I say! She's gonna be a force to be reckoned with when she grows up. :)

Here We Go Again

The Fair Midway

This is not my favorite time of year. I'm not a fan of county or state fairs. They're all right if you're a kid and you like carnival rides. I'm not a kid and while I don't mind carnival rides, I'm not as fond of them as I used to be when I was ten. Also, they're always 4-H related and while that's all very fine and good for 4-H folks, you're talking to a bonafide city-girl here. There is nothing I find appealing about being amongst livestock. Sorry, that's just me.

Yes, I know, I have to go to farms quite often to take photos and do interviews of people who have Centennial Farms. And I do love the people and their stories and most of the farm houses are quite picturesque. I even like riding horses.

However, I don't like walking around farms with livestock. Everything from the smell to my having once stepped in a pile of crap has led me to believe I was meant to live in a city with temperature controlled environments. So the fair reminds me of being out on a farm with livestock.

"Oh but the country is so beautiful and the air is so fresh out on the farm!" say the people who love it out there.

"No, the air is not fresh, it stinks," I reply.

Yes, I know, I loved nature and loved hiking and even hiked through Haleakala crater on Maui once during spring break in high school. That was 33 years ago when I was a teenager and I was stupid.

In my old age, I appreciate temperature controlled environments. Central air is the way to go. In the middle of summer when it's hotter than Hades outside and you break into a sweat just standing there, I want to be inside my air conditioned home with a glass of iced tea. Yes, I know between that and the rain forests I killed during tax season with the tons of paperwork necessary to do an 'electronic' return, Al Gore is going to show up at my door one day to tell me what a horrible person I am. I don't care. Hey, at age 16 I was told by some Catholic priest that I am going to hell along with the rest of my pagan family. So nothing scares me any more. I figure if I'm going to hell anyway, what's there to lose? [Yes, I'm joking as I don't believe in heaven or hell]

So tomorrow is my day to go take photos at the fair. I'm going to be hot and cranky. If there are no entries from me for a few days, it's because I melted on the fair grounds.

[NP: The Beatles - Savoy Truffle]

More Changes at LOCI

Seems behind the scenes changes continue. All the writers except for Jerome Hairston will be leaving LOCI. It unsettles me a bit and I'm rather concerned about the future of the show but then people were whining over the loss of Balcer and things turned out very well in the end with Leight.

So here's the news. Diana Son and Charlie Rubin sent a letter and photo to Major Case as an explanation/farewell/thank you to the fans. Peachy, administrator at Major Case, graciously forwarded it to The Reel for fan's consumption so if you don't want to sign up at Major Case to read it you can see it there. However, I do recommend you sign up as it is where you will find the best and most accurate information about the show in the most timely manner.

I am going to miss them all and wish them all the best. I'm really going to miss Charlie Rubin as in his interview with Major Case members, he was most charming and answered my questions! LOL He's also got a wicked sense of humor and great perspective on things. He must be charming as I've even forgiven him for that "Now, it's too late," line from Eames in Smile. You all know how upsetting that was for me! Yep, definitely love Charlie.

Season 8 is going to be quite something, I think.

I Learned Something New Today

I was visiting my usual round of blogs today and came across this little gem at Team 13 Projects, a blog by Jazzy, Lozziecap, Snarkangel and Val that is VDO-centric.

William Fichtner & Vincent D'Onofrio Strange Days

It's a cap from the movie Strange Days, in which Vincent D'Onofrio plays a bad cop. First of all, I saw this movie and quite frankly, wasn't a Vincent D'Onofrio fan at the time so I didn't realize who he was. And also, I wasn't a William Fichtner fan either so I had no idea they were both in this movie. Now I really have to see this again.

For those who don't know who William Fichtner is, I wrote a post about him a while back. You can read it here. It's amazing how so many great actors go unnoticed in character and supporting roles until one day they capture your attention and you realize you have seen them in more movies than you realized. I think that is probably a compliment to their abilities that they can become characters so completely you don't see the actor but the character they are portraying.

Thanks to Jazzy for posting those photos on her blog! I learned something new today and now have to go find a copy of Strange Days to watch again.

Legacy Review

Detective Goren in Legacy

Well, having taken a 2 hour nap today, I'm still very wide awake so here's my preliminary review. The high point of it all was seeing Goren and Eames. Here are some thoughts I shared at Major Case. If you don't want to know who-dunnit then don't read until seeing the episode.

I'd say it was all right. I didn't have trouble paying attention but it didn't keep me on the edge of my seat and gave me no Goren and Eames insights. Apparently I'm hooked on those now. LOL I hope the new show runners recognize this because if they go back to the old formula I'm gonna have a problem.

That said here's a few things I thought I'd comment on.

There was a potential for another confrontation - more physical than it ended up being - between Goren and Paul's father. His son was dead and he was still angry and disappointed in him when he discovered he washed his tux. Also the embarrassment the father felt over Paul's possibly having schizophrenia hit a sore point I'm sure. At the end he just took his glass away from him to get his attention as he did to Schill in Self-Made, which is what had me worried about a potentially more intense confrontation.

Interesting take off on internet scam where the mother of one girl made up a boy on Myspace to go after another girl at her daughter's school.

Perhaps I'm just tired of rich kids gone bad stories. Interesting how all those kids seemed to have lousy relationships with their parents - except Tess who seemed to get along well with her mom but then her mother isn't rich, she's a teacher.

Not fond of spoiled rich kids but I don't think all rich kids are necessarily spoiled either.

Murderer kid's father was a repeat offender from The Good Child.

I suppose a lesson here would be you should keep an eye on your children and not just throw money at them.

Might have more to say after watching it again. My hubby got caught up in something and missed a portion of it so he wants to watch it again.

Okay episode, not great, not bad. Now I have to brace myself for the last episode of Logan in a couple of weeks and then the season finale. This was probably a good respite for us before they hit us with a goodbye to Logan and the season finale for Goren.

Not sure why this one didn't grab me as much as the three before it but you can't hit a home run out of the park all the time. Ratings wise I'd vote fair to good.

Just a Quick Note

....to all my political discussion friends. No, I'm not dead. LOL I just haven't been participating in much discussion of politics and will be taking a break until I can stop being so outraged and angry I get emotionally invested in my arguments. As I've always counseled others, if you can't stay objective and argue rationally without getting angry at the person you're debating, you shouldn't be debating. Well, I'm back there again. Seems John McCain's campaign has me so angry, my husband won't even let me watch his ads anymore because he's afraid I'm going to have a heart attack or stroke. For those who have been discussing with me for a while now, think of it like the 'vacation' I took from political discussion after the last election and my disgust and dismay at my fellow Americans for letting Bush have four more years. I'll be back eventually. Thanks for the inquiries as to my where-abouts.

In the meantime, I leave you with the following video from YouTube. It's posted by barelypolitical and certainly made me laugh.

I love memes

Came across this meme a while ago and can't for the life of me remember where but I didn't have time to do it so I copied and saved it for a time like now where I'm just a wee bit bored.

What is your favorite quotable line from a Movie?

"Gentlemen, you can't fight in here! This is the War Room." President Merkin Muffley in Dr. Strangelove. Just one of the many characters played by the late great Peter Sellers.

It's probably my most favorite movie of all time.

Who is the most famous person you have spoken to?

Having been in the broadcasting business I've spoken to a lot of 'famous' people. Of course most of the speaking would be of a "Hi, how are you?" kind. So if we're counting all those and those who I helped direct to their seat for the morning show for their interview, then it would be Oprah Winfrey.

If we're going for quality conversation, I'd say Joe Walsh.

How many bags/boxes of Potato Chips are consumed at your place in a month?

Depends on my mood. My husband doesn't eat potato chips very much but I love them. I'd say one to two bags. It also depends on if the grandchildren and children show up. Then it would be a bag in one day.

Who is your all time favorite Cartoon Character?

.It's a toss up between Scooby Doo and the Tasmanian Devil in those Bugs Bunny cartoons.

Scooby because he was so adorable and hey, they solved mysteries on his show. And Taz because sometimes I feel like I have his personality. LOL

What foreign food dish do you prepare from scratch and serve?

Well, considering I was born and raised in Hawaii with a lot of 'foreign' food all around, there's actually a list. However I'll just say sushi.

What is your favorite section of the Supermarket?

International food section. [See above answer for reason]

What was your high school teams mascot and what were the school’s colors?

Our mascot was a mule - we were located next to an Army base so the army mule was our mascot. Our colors were green and white.

Another Milestone Coming Up

My oldest granddaughter turns eight on Wednesday. Eight! I can't believe it. It feels like just a year or two ago that she was born. I remember seeing her for the first time. She was all hair. It really was amazing. I've never seen a baby with that much hair at birth. By the time she was three her hair was all the way down to her waist.

When she was first born Jimmy and Staci 1.0 were still living with us at our three level, four bedroom lake house. So there we were, my husband and myself, my mother, Jimmy, Staci, baby Lilly, Belle the Old English Sheep Dog and three cats - Obake, Harley and Bob. Lillian was the first baby I ever felt comfortable holding. Even then it took me a while. I'm not a natural at the whole 'nurturing' thing. I was more like Murphy Brown when she was handed her new baby brother - courtesy of her father and new wife who was younger than Murphy - and she sort of held him at arms length, looking absolutely terrified.

Eventually I even mastered the art of changing diapers with Lilly. Hey, I was an only child and I never babysat as a teenager as by that time I really didn't see being a mother as something in my future. Never thought I'd be a grandmother without having to go through the mother phase of life either. My stepson used to come over and visit us once a month and spent half the summer with us every year. It wasn't difficult to be a mom that way. I also got to stay out of the disciplinary side of parenting. That was up to my husband and his ex when it was necessary. Fortunately Jimmy was a wonderful child. He never gave me a problem and we got along just fine. No resentment issues or anything and it helped that his mother and I got along well.

So now here's Lilly turning eight and getting taller every day. I'm dreading the day she turns into a teenager. She won't want to come stay over at grandpa and grandma's house any more and I'm sure she will find us as exciting as watching paint dry. I hope this isn't the case but it's the general trend with children.

Here's a story I posted when she finally learned to ride a bicycle.

"It's...it's like a miracle!" The Wonderful Perspective of a Child

My eldest granddaughter Lilly, who is currently six years old, is a very imaginative child. I call her my little drama queen. She has a flair for the dramatic and I'm sure she will either been an actress or an artist.

One day last spring, my husband and I were at my stepson's house for our usual Sunday dinner with the family. After dinner, my daughter-in-law decided to take the three girls and my eldest granddaughter's friend who was visiting, for a walk. My husband, stepson and I were having coffee in the kitchen.

About a half hour later, we heard the front door burst open and Lilly calling out "Daddy! Daddy! Come here! You have to come see this!"

We all went out to the living room where she immediately ran over to my stepson and said "Daddy, you have to see this, it's...it's like...it's like a MIRACLE!" She looked at all of us and said "Grandma and grandpa you have to see this, too!" She motioned us to follow her and ran back outside.

We all chuckled and followed the whirlwind that was Lilly. As we stepped out onto the porch, there she stood with her friend Ashley's bicycle. It was a bike without training wheels. Lilly had never ridden a bicycle without training wheels before. At time Lilly was five and Ashley was six.

My daughter-in-law and the other two granddaughters and Ashley were standing around the yard watching Lilly as she got on the bicycle and said proudly, "Watch me!" She then pushed off and rode the bicycle down the sidewalk stopped, turned and beamed at us stating matter as a matter of fact, "See, I told you it's a miracle!"

It was one of those precious moments you never forget. The innocence and joy in the basic accomplishments of life. Oh to be five again when every new discovery and accomplishment was a miracle.

The Mythological Profile Test

At some point during my busy and stress filled day, I found this test and decided to take it. Here is the result.

Your result for The Mythological Profile Test...

Unicorn

You scored 40% Esotericism, 14% Power, and 34% Malevolence!

The unicorn is a legendary animal. It is usually portrayed as a slender, white horse with a spiraling horn on its forehead, although its appearance and behavior differs, depending on the location. In the west it was usually considered wild and untamable, while in the Orient it was peaceful, meek and thought to be the bringer of good luck. There it is usually depicted as a goat-like creature, with cloven hooves and a beard. In Japan it is called Kirin, and in China Ki-lin.
The word "unicorn" is based on the Hebrew word re'em ("horned animal"), in early versions of the Old Testament translated as "monokeros", meaning "one horn", which became "unicorn" in English. The creature is possibly based on the rhinoceros or the narwhal, a marine creature with one horn.

After the day I had I would have thought I would have been something more...angry and obnoxious. LOL Perhaps the western vision of wild and not tamable is the proper description because peaceful and meek is definitely not me - at least not today. ;-)

Life Imitates Art

Kathryn Erbe & Vincent D'Onofrio
LOCI - A Person of Interest Episode
Photo from strangevisitor.org

Saw a story on the news today that got my attention. It's about the Anthrax suspect from 2001. Saw it on CNN but other news outlets have been covering it as well.

It caught my attention because this story is the 'ripped from the headlines' premise of a Law & Order: Criminal Intent story from season 2. For those of you who are not familiar with the show, the episode was entitled A Person of Interest and had Vincent D'Onofrio's character, Detective Goren, facing an old nemesis - among LOCI fans, she is infamous. The story centered around a suspect who Goren felt was the guilty party. Because the man was particularly detestable to Goren he went after him in the press and hounded the man relentless in pursuit of a confession. The man eventually appeared to commit suicide with a letter that blamed the relentless pursuit of Goren that made his life unbearable enough for him to kill himself.

In the end it was proven the man was actually murdered by one, Nicole Wallace, Goren's aforementioned nemesis. She also turned out to be the culprit in the Anthrax murders.

Somehow, the fact that the man who has been under suspicion all this time chose to end his life like that makes it one of those chilling coincidences. This was a case of art imitating life which turned into a case of life imitating art.
