In the Absence of New Episodes of LOCI

Now that the election is over my political obsession has abated somewhat and I can pay attention to other obsessions. First and foremost my beloved Law & Order: Criminal Intent.

I'm still rather upset over the way the show has been handled by USA. Again, I probably wouldn't have been as upset over the delay if it was originally scheduled to start in January instead of rushed off like it has been. I feel USA is treating the show just like NBC did during it's time on that network. Take a look at the website even. Only 1 photo of Detective Zach Nichols , none in the Character Gallery. This is your new male lead on half of your episodes and you don't even have maybe one or two photos there? You know, just so he is represented?

And of course they put Jeff Goldblum front and center, pushing Vincent D'Onofrio to the background and ergo pissing off all the VDO fans. I love Jeff Goldblum and am glad he's coming on board and I understand the need to promote him but not at the expense of THE reason LOCI has it's fan base - Vincent D'Onofrio and his fans who have been following this show loyally all these years. Perhaps if USA had more photos in general they could have evenly displayed all detectives and NOT put one over the other.

The final outrage was moving the show from November 6 to November 7 and then to some unknown date in 2009 at the last minute. Making the announcement one week before the show was scheduled to debut for season 8 is NOT the way to go about it. And then putting out the announcement on their LOCI forum but not changing the web page for the show itself for a few days was also confusing. I had people asking me why it wasn't on last night. These are people who watch the show but not religiously as I and others do. So they didn't know because USA was horrible in getting the word out.

I've decided the association of USA to NBC must be the reason for the stupidity and incompetence. Obviously it's contagious and now I'm wishing some other network like TNT or A&E or Bravo will pick the show up instead. But in the end it's probably going to just go away if USA keeps fucking up as royally as they are right now.

Perhaps I'm being unreasonable in my expectations and overly negative about USA after all the good things they did for the show last season. But I'm sick of this show being treated badly and left to languish while the horror known as SVU gets promoted like it's some kind of Holy Grail of television drama when really, from what I've heard from people who used to be fans, it's not.

So in the absence of any new episodes here are a few things I've come across that you may enjoy in the mean time.

BobbyG has put up more caps for the episode Crazy. Here are the various slide shows you can enjoy: "Crazy" Eames, "Crazy" Partners, "Crazy" Extras, Just "Crazy" Bobby and "Crazy" Quotes. Something for every LOCI fan. Alex, Bobby, Bobby and Alex, fun with Bobby and quotes and commentary. :-)

In the fan fiction department, jesshelga has a great fan fic up about Bobby and Alex and that honeymoon suite. Well, it's not the exact honeymoon suite but you'll see. It's called 'Man's Unrelenting Pursuit of Potency at the Arrowhead Pequod.' I love her titles and her stories. Here's the one that's AU Bobby and Alex called 'When It's Springtime In Alaska (It's 40 below).' I may have posted this before but it's worth posting again. Cute story. Kind of like Northern Exposure meets Hallmark movie - as she describes it.

Oh and Sipman, who normally writes the best Ross/Rodgers fan fiction, has written something for Bobby and Alex and it's marvelous! It's called 'Stationary.' I think she should write more Bobby and Alex. :-)

Recently I was reading some of my favorites because I was at work and I was somewhat bored. I found this crossover fan fic of Monk and LOCI. It's probably impossible for this to happen because one show is a comedy and the other is a drama - angst ridden as of late - but Lynnez wrote it a while back and I thought it would be fun to see what happens when Mr. Monk meets Detective Goren. This is an AU story with Bobby and Alex as an established couple so keep that in mind when starting it. It's called 'Mr. Monk Goes to Major Case.' I thought all characterizations were great for characters from both shows.

And for Jeff Goldblum fans, besides the Ultimate Jeff Goldblum site, here's another fan site I don't think I've mentioned, Jeff Goldblum Online. Lots of great material there. Oh and associated with the Ultimate Jeff Goldblum site is Jeff Goldblum - Law & Order: Criminal Intent. Seems Jeff's fans are as devoted as Vincent D'Onofrio's fans. I couldn't find any similar sites for Chris Noth when he was on LOCI and it was most frustrating. This way you can find out more about Major Case's newest detective.

And for those who can't get enough of Vincent D'Onofrio there are tons of sites to be found. Here's a partial list: The Valentine Cat, Life and Vincent, The Velocity of Vincent, Team 13 Projects. There are more but these are the ones that update on a daily basis. Hey, Vincent Vixens are nothing if not dedicated! :-)

Oh and a reminder, please sign up and help get this site started. It's brand new and needs contributors, Unofficially Kathryn. Now that I'm not quite so taken up with politics I'll see if I can't help out but it would be nice to have an active Kathryn Erbe fan site.

Oh and here's a video from ShaylahShmoo that's - as she put it - just Goren looking pretty. The song is 'Dragula' by Rob Zombie.

So enjoy while we bide our time and wait patiently - or in some cases impatiently - for our show to begin again.

I understand your frustrations with USA. Even though they had started promoting it, it didn't seem to be with the same vigor that they had last year, which had me a little concerned and ruffled. But I definitly wasn't expecting them to pull the plug until 09.

Hopefully it's worth the wait and we will see them invest the same amount as energy as they did last year...i'm not holding my breath on that but trying to be optimistic...let's face LOCI is the red-headed step child of the Law & Order verse, but also the best.

Thanks for the plug by the way and for the link to the kathryn erbe forum...nice to see that.

Yeah, LOCI always gets the shaft when it comes to the L&O universe. I was just hoping USA would treat it better for a longer period of time seeing as it is the only L&O show they've got.

I'm just frustrated.

I was bummed that in addition to bumping the premiere, they cancelled the all-day LOCI marathon they had scheduled for Friday. Boo!

And thanks as always for the promotion!

Yeah, I was bummed about that, too.

And you're welcome for the promo. I love to share the joy. :-)

So the respite from this is over? Just kidding. But I will miss the political commentary. :)

Hi Marie,

Don't worry, I'll still be commenting, I'm sure. The Republicans aren't in power any more but they're still around. I'm sure they'll be doing even more stupid things to piss me off. ;-)

Aww thanks for promoting my Site again :) I have a Page for Zack Nichols on my Jeff website, would you like me to add your blog URL there?

You're welcome, Michelle. I really like your site. Very comprehensive. :-)

Thanks for listing me on your site, too. :-)

So annoying that LOCI is treated like the bastard child of the franchise but good thing it's still on and going strong, thanks to fans like us!

Although I like Saturdays, I miss my daily fix of an LOCI rerun.

LOCI is by far still the best show on TV, even L&O is cheesing out--the new season is not so good--whole other subject.

But I'm looking forward to '09, there better not be another delay.

Here's hoping there's no more delay or USA may find they have a riot on their hands.
